Actually, that kind of makes sense. Even drunkards call it a day by 4am. But that doesn't mean nothing can happen in the wee hours of the morning.
In UK if a taxi has a light on saying HIRED, taxi will not pick any other passenger regardless of who he/she may be. It will stop if hailed by the police but police is not allowed to board a taxi. police should use public transport or pre book a taxi . On the other hand if a taxi. If a displays On Hire sign is on and some one hails it and the taxi refuses to stop if you can make note of the taxi number you can report it to licensing authority for not taking fare as we call it. Taxi driver can loose his/her license if found guilty. An MP can only be picked from Houses of parliament if the Light marked TAXI is lit outside the parliament otherwise they pay same fare as the public.(Government do not get billed for private hire MP must pay on the spot). having said that and pointed few restrictions London taxi drivers are no saints and could rob any one even kill. robbing>raping Killing is not confined to countries such as India it is also rife in UK, and Europe. Only difference is that victim gets justice fast compared to India etc.
I think Mumbai is one of the safest cities in India .. one because of the population, there are a lot of people working and commuting at every time. Second they dont have stupid rules like all shops should close by 11 (like in bangalore) because of which every one goes off to home by that time and then its dangerous for even a guy to transit alone. And I think the police in Mumbai is also better

Totally agree... been a single women living and working in mumbai for few years. Its really a safe place for women. While we do hear of unwanted incidents once in a while, but i personally feel its less compared to any other cities.

i agree with you. a city that never sleeps is secure. just as here in singapore. all the time people can be seen on the road and food courts which are open 24 hrs.
My friend who stays in California, says that there it is unsafe for even men to travel alone after 6.00 p.m forget women. Mumbai is atleast 100 times safer
Girls in semi nude clothes, drunk, loaded with gold should reach home safely at 3:00am. It is called as security & is present in US & Europe, Japan, China, Korea, S'pore, everywhere.
Above article is written on assumption that there is a jungle raj in India.
