What has Baru done about this ?
by Rama Krishna on Aug 11, 2010 04:47 PM

Well it is a fashion to be in the media and be friends with the govt, as media is a business, and no more a profession , ht ceo is a sonia favourite , toi is pro govt, tv18 , ndtv everyone are very gentle with madam sonia, so indias media is a biased media.
What has mr baru done to change things ?
as things go there are more additions to quota raj , be it obc quota , minority qouta and there is an artificial shortage if good educational bodies and politicians make private universities to acquire capitation fees and illegal donations, but who will bell the cat ?

How the quota system is fair...
by Viz on Aug 11, 2010 04:46 PM  | Hide replies

I say 'fair', not 'right'.

I used to be a hardcore opponent of quota system until one day I found my blind spot.

No doubt, students coming from quota system are substandard. But what about the ones coming from the donation system? Hundreds are colleges are selling professional degrees to the rich who can pay donations. Those students are equally bad as the ones coming from quota system.

How come no one makes noise about donation system?

The rich can buy a degree, what would the poor do?

The quota system is fair - equally bad as donation system. You should not thinking about removing one without eradicating the other.

It might be a political tool for some. But it is also doing some social justice.

You are right that there are substandard students in the donation collecting institutions also. However, even Ratan Tata or Mukesh Ambani can not get a seat in an IIT, IIM or in IISc for their children by paying donation, if their children do not get admission based on the admission test performance. But someone from the reserved categories get in with a much lower level performance. I am a professor in a central university and there are occassions when admission is given to candidates from one of the reserved communities was admitted despite scoring negative marks in the entrance test. This is some thing that will neither benefit the candidate nor the institution. What we really need is good quality education in the school and 2 level. Admission to higher education must be based solely on merit.

True, there are donation seats and general seats that go to semi competent students , solely for capitation fees and donations and influence but two wrongs dont make a right and a just pass student generally fails or struggles to pass a competitive degree be it a paid student or a quota student
so two wrongs dont make a right
and to talk about social justice , most super rich backward class obc etc students use these seats and poor obc students loose out bcause they cant afford the lodging and boarding let alone the education.
i have personally seen this

What is important is to evaluate the competence of the student as these seats have huge demand, and some quota students take way too long to pass

Dr. Baru's opinion about our restricted higher education system is well directed to our concerned authority for review.
This interview is worth reading.
Thanks to Rediff.

Not just Students
by Shyam Sunder on Aug 11, 2010 04:38 PM  | Hide replies

It is not just good students miss out due to quota. Even good workers miss out to quota and end up in doing sub-standard jobs ultimatley getting frustrated. The fate of government departments performing poor and high level of corruption is totally attributable to this. India is losing to US and China purely due to our failed quota system. If 60 years of quota system cannot bring up anybody and on the contrary has brought down the meritorious ones, whom should we blame other than the greedy politicians?

What is social justice? Bringing in poor quality and sacrificing high quality at the cost of country's safety, honour and development?

Instead why not toil and rise to the occasion and prove the real mettle by competing properly instead of waiting for someone to come and lift one up in the name of caste?

Quota system can not be eradicated. No potical party has the guts to have it in thier agenda, bcos politicians are well aware of the impact.
Its a highly sensitive issue and I am sure and confident that no politiician will event think about it. Long live quota system.
My Dear Brahhmins.
Better live with this for ever. No day dreams.

It is completely wrong that Brahmins does not want quota system or quota system is anti Brahmin. Not every Brahmin is good student or an excellent one and not every brahmin is rich and capable. No one talks about the poor brahmins who are in many.
So. People and political parties should stop projecting things like quota system is anti brahmin.
Myself being a Brahmin does not want quota systems to go since my brothers from other casts and creed will be deprived of facilities if at all quota system is actually providing them if any which I dont think so.

But, quota system is also killing the brilliance amoung the intended communities as well. This is the negative affect of such system. I have many good friends who are from ST, SC and OBC background and are extreamly brilliant, bright and sharp but they too regret the qota system. But they dont have the voice and support.

Why Open A Can of Worms....???
by Anand Khatavkar on Aug 11, 2010 04:31 PM  | Hide replies

This is a truth of course Sir..!!

But who cares? This is India...After Bhopal Disaster someone created a song "IF YOU WANT TO COME TO INDIA BETTER JUMP INTO A WELL"

Reservation is in fact like helping a disabled man to run marathon by promoting him from Start line to finish line, while the other man keeps on running all the way for 30kms. And that is why Americans rejected it, But they have in the end elected a Black as President in white house over his competencies and not on reservations.

Here, people will surely fight for subsidies and subsidies and support systems - (can be compared to Life support systems in Hospitals) as BIRTH RIGHTS rather than prove it right.

All people who do not get admissions and jobs due to reservations - BETTER JUMP INTO A WELL.

sethu..seems the sethu(bridge) between your brain and common sense is missing. no poor is benefitting from this.. a ex president's (ex IFS) son applied for scholarship under his caste...what about that..think man..think in you state(if your are from TN) no one dares to goto a non Forwar castee doctor for treatement..what do you say abou that... I will tell you a true incident in m y univ a lady who into MBBS and then MD was asked in viva in MD...as to what a polycystic ovary and a cyst on ovary (an MBBS quesation which any one knows) she could answer it, then she was asked the most simplest question as what are the ares where intavenous injection can be given no answer..then the most easiest and even a lay man can answer she was asked where do your given an injection on upper limbs...you know what was the answer..on fingers..coz she has seen some mone collecting blood for sample analysis... the MD examiner got frustrated and asked her to write it on the answer sheet for the question and cuonter sign it...I feel ashmed even to write this incident. Now tell me whether I should had the quota system and people who got it.. i leave that your developed brain and thought process

shyamsunder... I dont know that what you said is true or not... but if that might have had happened than its probably a fraud case, which had to do nothing with quota system. I can point you hundreds of doctors from my state (i feel its probably the best in mediacl system) came under quota system. Please dont give ur fairytails...

Rather, you are to be pitied upon.

The core cause of Corruption is now the protectionism offered by Reservations in Government systems. Even in courts, the judicial system is biased against Brahmins who are less than 4% of Indian population but form 80% of Human Resources.

Should It be not Based on Geography & Financial Status after 60 years of reservations.

Even Dr.Ambedkar had originally put the task of reservation for 20Yrs. He burnt the modified constitution copy before his death.

You are a much better ignorant.

hahaha I like ur Ambedkar story.... there are thirty thousand people employed by railways to clean the human waste from the railway tracks.... and all these 30000 people are employed from a same lowa caste community. If you brahmins want to be a good servant for god... would you go and do that job?. It is not 60 years we need 200 more ayears to ensure equality...
