IAS is a coveted job....
by A P on Apr 14, 2010 10:13 AM

IAS has power, money, fame, authority which are unparalleled. Harvard, Cambridge are good , but an IAS officer's job is majestic , which no other job is.

Its good to listen about Karthik and its really very aspiring. But its hopeless Indian youth commenting here. All are frustrated and having malignant thoughts. Everybody is commenting and wishing him to change the country but no body is saying Karthik i will help you. No body says Im also doing such a changing work, whatever he/she is doing. Commenting is very easy. When will follow.

...and know I will get comments on my post.... come on guyz....im ready...

Well, we all know an IAS is a PEST for the country! I am sorry you're not aware.
we all appreciate, if he is truly devoted, but with our 60 yrs of experience in these IAS, i think we r justified in laughing at him.

PS: respect others' viewpoints. I bet they are equally qualified and informed as you. So, they must have reason to not believe this fellow.

i think the PS u wrote applies very 1st on u. and what u have learned from 60 years of experiences its seems from ur words. So im not at all surprized (again) on ur words too, and i put u in the same category, as far my experience allows me.

educational qualification in India is something which i do not give value at all .If you have really done or achieved something without money or quota then I admit your quality. otherwise you are also those memorizing machines without understanding the life and the certificate gives you false ego about your quality.

u give value or not......it has no impact........because educated indians dont give value of sentences like ur mouth says. So ur r scarp for indian academics which is out of ur small mind, if you have one. Dont worry peoples are there to carry forward. So wait and watch.

you cannot expect everyone in the country to stop doing everything they are doing...go back to rural areas and start doing social service .. we all have families to feed and that is the reason we have elected people to take care of unlucky few . I am pretty sure every responsible citizen is doing thier bit either directly or indirectly

An average IAS officer gets more than 4 cr (approx a million USD) in bribes per month . No doctor in USA can take home that kind of money after taxes .... Now you guys can do a math and see why one chooses IAS over PHD in USA

will he clean up india
by free market on Apr 14, 2010 09:39 AM  | Hide replies

If he is such a genius, let us see if he is capable of cleaning garbage and unclogging sewage drains. If this guy is like other IAS officers who are incapable of even removing trash, then the whole IAS profession is worthless and should be done away with. We can just have some low level clerks.

I posted this message earlier and some people got upset and claimed IAS officer's job is not to clean garbage. Actually, it is their job. The executive is supposed to implement the actions. Administrators who run municipalities have to do this job. One person even foolishly claimed that community activism is what is necessary to clean up garbage and the job of IAS officer is to feel good so that we can all salaam him and feel inferior! Sorry, it is the local government's job to do so and the IAS officer is the person responsible for doing it on behalf of the govt. Anyway, the point is IAS officers are fools who are incapable of even cleaning trash.

No need to gloat over their incompetence. Their result over the past 60 years is evident from overflowing sewage, potholed roads and stinking garbage bin overflowing onto streets.

Hope you don't regret the decision 5 years or 10 years down the lane. You cannot understimate idiot politicians and the corruption.

Your self sacrifice to get IAS is beyond imagination. Now a days everybody is running after money, you are exceptional Country needs minimum 100 students like you every year so that India can be great. IAS is the best service to serve the people. Only drawback is to achieve target avoiding political pressure. Thanks and continue like this

Karthik!
by Solnishka on Apr 13, 2010 02:18 PM

I greatly admire your passion to serve people dear Karthik. I am really fortunate to have seen such people like you amidst us and its these people who are really driving India ........ truly. Good ....... and wish you all the best to keep this spirit up all through.

I know couple of friends joining the IAS and have really done commendable work. Being honest there, is really a taxing job with about 90% of IAS into full time corruption and sab chaltha attitude it will be veyr veyr difficult for the rest 10% to thrive. They were and are being subjected to regular transfers and one of friend's daughter's studies have got screwed up totally. He still continues to be honest still but he has resorted to full time drinking ........ possibly to keep his stress levels low. I also wanted to get into Civil services but I somehow did not want to be become a sub-ordinate (or a secretary) to the Illiterate gavaar oliticians and so decide to give my best in Research and through research earn clean and legal oney and thne get into Politics (with big money) Its only with people who are service oriented that something can be done in India. We will at least be able to clear our karmic debts with this attitude.

Good luck Karthik and really hats off!!!

IAS topper chooses rural India over Harvard.

I pity this youngster from South india. I appreciate his hard work, brilliance. but his life is NOT secure even one minute in the Mayawati/ Mullu run UP ( or even Congress administered UP in 1980s. Example : the poor lady Maya- her husband was killed ans she was paraded nude by the Police and no justice to her. Even women PM Madam. Gandhi never bothered to render justice. and there are 2 cases - one in UP and the other in Bihar- Dubey of NHAI was brutally murdered for not towing the line of corrupt / cruel Bihari politicians. Same was the case with a young UP govt officer. He was brutally murdered.

My dear son, GOD bless u. You must know hw UMAKANTH, a young IAS officer of TN was systamatically harassed by AMMA during 1996-2001. Even today the DMK govt simply threw him out for not towing their line.
And in Maharashtra, the famour IAS officer ( I forgot name); He was simply harassed and shifted from one place to another. because he exposed Govt's corruption in each place. when he was FDA adminstrator, he closed many drug manufacturing companies inc Glaxo, Govt owned IDPL! Next day he was shunted out. He exposed the FSI scam in Bombay- he was thrown out next day. He exposed the looting of govt money allotted under MAHARASHTRA GOVT RURAL EMPLOYMENT SCHEME- where no work was done, but was shown on paper as done and hundreds of crores looted. He was simply tossed away. He was denied promotion, only thr court he got it. the cruel UP politicians will not allow u to function!
