What a shame that a great country like India does NOT have a national language.
Hindi is NOT the national language of India as per the Constitution of India.Schedule VIII of the constitution that deals with languages, states that English, Hindi, Tamil, Punjabi, Malyalam and other reigional languages are all Official languages of India!!!
In fact the constitution does NOT mention 'national language' even once! Why?

As per the Constitution Hindi is the official language (Rajbhasha or Rashtrabhasha) and all 23 major languages from Bengali to Nepali are national languages. It is a different matter that while announcing a programme Doordarshan and AIR routinely refer to these languages as pradeshik bhashas leaving the listeners wondering in which particular pradeshik bhasha the programme is going to be.

Have you read the constitution? Article 343(1) states that "The Official Language of the Union shall be Hindi in Devanagari script." And that English could be also used for official purposes. However, attempts would be made increase the scope of Hindi in official matters on a gradual basis.
Don't believe me, check it yourself. The Schedule VIII you mention are not "official languages" but known as "Schedule VIII Languages"

HINDI MEDIUM TYPE REALLY MATTERS. CERTAINLY WE GET INTO THE POLITICS OF LANGUAGE RATHER THAN THE CHOICE OF OUR OWN INTREST AND LIVELIHOOD.FORCING TO LEARN HINDI IS NOT JUSTIFIED AT ALL.

If you are an Indian Tamil you should never ask this question as Hindi is India's Official language as per the Indian Constitution. If you are a Sri Lankan Tamil, it is a different matter.

Manoj, you got it wrong. Hindi is one of the 18 or so official languageS of India.
Hindi does NOT have any special status as per schedule VII of the Constitution of India. It is at par with English, Marathi, Bengali, Telugu, Punjabi, Malayalam, Kannada and several other regional languages!
Dont try and twist that fact to 'decalare' Hindi as THE official language of India. It is not!

Otherwise we will not have any illiterate hindywallas. Just look at the literacy levels of the hindy-belt.

IF WE FEEL SOMETHING IS LACKING WITH US , WE ALWAYS TRY TO PROOVE BETTER AND EFFORTS ARE ALWAYS THERE , RESULTANT IS SUCCESS ENGLISH MEDIUM ARE " HANDLE WITH CARE" , THEY ALWAYS NEED RESOURCES , TO START THEIR JOB ,BUT HINDI MEDIUM FIRST START THE JOB AND NEED RESOURCES TO IMPROVE THE RESULTS ENGLISH MEDIUM ( BRANDED): - HANDLE WITH CARE DO NOT APPLY HOT IRON DO NOT APPLY DIRECT SUN RAYS DO NOT USE HOT WATER AVOID RINSE LIFE TILL FASHION ENDED PRICE TAG ( MRP )Rs VERY HIGH HINDI MEDIUM :- NO CARE REQUIRE CAN CREATE ENVIRONMENT AS PER REQUIREMENT GOOD RESULTS WITH ROUGH TREATMENT LIFE UP TO ENDING OF TRUST MRP Rs DECIDE AFTER USE
Medium whether english or hindi are of little use. What is important is the intellect. You are there at this position is because of your intellect and not because of Hindi/English.
An English medium Class I officer teaching Thermo-dynamics was asked as to what is the difference between four stroke engine and two stroke engine. He replied. Four stroke has four cylinders and two stroke has two cylinders.
A fellow colleague who has his school education in Hindi Medium had a hearty laugh and said Sir, what a joke.
Hindi/English medium is cerainly more just the language of instruction.
It forms the basis of ideological bifurcation in our society. There are a few personality traits which sharply distinguish Hindi(or any vernacular lang. for that matter) medium educated people.
# Abject submission to authority. Superiors can never be wrong
# Regional/National chauvinism.
# False sense of morality.
# Blind hatred towards everything American.
# Molestation is ok but pre-marital_sex is sin.
# Stubbornly follow the book and be reluctant towards any thing unconventional or out of the box
# Poor are good people and rich are bad people. Socialism rules.

What you said is more applicable in terms of generation gap instead of language or medium.
