about layoffs
by newgamian on May 13, 2009 10:20 PM  | Hide replies

I too was laid off along with 100 in a software co during dotcom bust. Indian economy is not that much open to take it easy of people laid off. It is a huge stigma for the first few months and then slowly i learned where i failed. In fact in that period after layoff i learned a lot about my industry
rather than in job. So don't take it your heart layoffs have confidence and you will see a new world.

I recently left my job and now due to so called recession many companies are totally USING people.. Better off as a freelancer.. trust me. Its a waste to work in corporate slavery and tolerate that shitty politics... better start ur own business or work as consultant basis.

Dear Manish,

Thanks for your article !!! Great learning for me.

On your ethical point I would like to tell a short story :

An MNC CEO's bonus was dependant on profits. At year end the CEO put huge pressure on CFO to raise profits to met the target. The CFO did not oblige and showed the real facts. The CEO complained to US HQ that the Accounts were wrong & CFO need to be removed. The US HQ appointed an auditor to review. Though the CFO was in deep stress bcoz of this the auditors after review gave a good very report to HQ based on which the CFO was promoted to a senior level.

So lets stick to ethics irrespectve of pressures around us.

Partha

Hi Manish Porwal,

WOW is not enough to express!

Your words are vital for youngsters who suffer from gratuitous layoff.

We Indian who live in safe hands who love to play safe for future (we make savings, we like permanent employment, etc.). It is really pathetic when these western layoff strategies hit us badly at a very young age.

It is a fantastic job by your insight to write this on board. You are the one who needed for this society of youngsters to give faith and guidance for the right path. Please start the venture process as early as possible. Earlier the better, remember to contact me [raajesh4uAT rediffmailDOTcom] as I am willing to serve. Let us work to shift the minds our people and bring a brighter world.

I believe these immediate, as you have the entire prerequisite. Nation wants you; please march ahead to serve this society.

Regards,

BK Raajesh Krishna
