Dont come to US for Money
by praveen on Dec 07, 2009 07:35 AM  | Hide replies

All the people who came to usa for money will end up loosing as money is flowing away from usa and will continue to do so,,,, USA is known for great education schools which are still unparlleled,,, come for only education,,,you will get everything else automatically...come for money you will not get education nor job ,, you will end up like labourers going to dubai and who boast they make money......Even the best indian school is atleast 20 yrs behind and quality of students and teachers is even worse then the worst universtiy of usa

what nonsense. come out of your slave mentality. People at top Indian institutions are on par with the best in the world, but they lack proper funding and opportunities. British left more than 60 years back but you guys have not still got over inferiority complex with whites.

Indian school should start training instead of educating.
by bihari babu on Dec 07, 2009 04:32 AM

First thing indian students have to realise that days of education is gone. Only 'training' is given emphasis in US education. Thats why they are top. In india if we change our system of educatin, train people in accomplishing various task with least effort and time. Also help them grow as better human being since you need lots of streignth and intelligence. that come only from learning self awarness (It can be practiced by spirituality).
Anyway, you should talk to green card holder who live in US. they will cry and tell you how life is hard in US. In india its very easy to dream about US life. But reality is very different there. So why not help develop world class systems in india itself. Whatever little bit we can. Instead of passing blame on govt, neta etc. thats waste of time.

For wanna be graduate students.
by Geo on Dec 06, 2009 10:50 AM  | Hide replies

The reasons are:
1. 99% of desi students who go to west want a H1b job. Now not easy at all. Even those who plan to get into academics are finding it tough. Even if you land a H1b job, there is a very good chance of layoffs, and on H1b you can no longer stay without job and and search for new jobs according to the law.
2. Due to recession American colleagues hate desis on H1b. Agencies have started enforcing labor laws rigorously. You cant be out of visa status even for a day otherwise you can kiss any chance of getting a green card goodbye.
3. Green card/citizenship is the aim for all desis on job in the US. Now it is a pipe dream due to slowed processing. It takes desis 8-10 years to get a green card now and that too by sticking to 1 company. If you lose job, very easy in the US now, you are back to square 1. Desi has to return to India as a bitter has-been with wife and kids.
4. Assistantships and aid is tough to get now. Unlike before, Indian students cant expect to come to US and land up assistantships.
5. Banks in India are not giving student loans as easily. That is good decision on the part of banks - since how would a person who cant get a H1b job plan to pay back?
In general if you are coming now, you should be IIT Btech topper type or your dad/mom/uncle/granddad should have tonnes of cash to pay off your student loans and take you back into family business when you return to des.

Best of luck!

The true nature of Hindupeople
by Mahakavi jollydoss on Dec 06, 2009 08:39 AM  | Hide replies

1. They think they are white.
2. When they are beggars, they grab the white man's feet. After they are handed a break, they try to grab some other poor Indian's throat.
3. They can memorize the concepts and explain very skillfully what the white man invented and what the Japanese or the chinese have created.
4. You won't ever find anyone more conceited in the world. With ugly, disgusting habits, they claim to be cultured. With a sickening, divisive, and tragic social system of the past, they still claim that the country in ancient times was a united utopia.

Panagriya need to know better on Graduate education in India
by Guest on Dec 06, 2009 01:09 AM

I think Panagriya didn't visit India for the last 20 years. He got his US Citizenship and forgot he was born in India.Protectionism made things worse with US. students from India feel uncomfortable to do their further studies in US with the US recession. If this trend continues with the decline in Asian Students, lot of Universities will be closed and Panagriya need to look for another job!

US Education
by alok Misra on Dec 06, 2009 12:06 AM  | Hide replies

With out doubt I can say that Indians educated and bred in India perform better than those with the US education who are only preferably hired by US companies- even there IIM Grads are the main commanders.US was the preferred location for Indians to migrate and that was the main reason why they were going in droves. People who could not get admission in top colleges were flying to US becuse they could afford it.When it came to performing in India they were not as good as the local guy. So he stayed in US - got married to a Indian girl and applied for Green Card in Time. Finally his alienation from India was complete when he took citizenship, Often He did not return to look at his parents even.
Times have changed. Today his role models often never studied in US. There are thousands of Success stories in all fields of Indians born and Bred here.America is still on horizin but not the idle place for the opportunity any more.
With me are some Engineers who are doing better work than Amwerican Degree holders ever did with me. Then there another issue- Satyam fraudster Reddy was a MBA from Top US
university- How many MBA from India will like to be like him?
US does impart good education but what is really a good education? Is it keeping people some days and firing them from Jobs at random?
I know several Educated MS in the USA who were treated like this.US treats it own people with lesser qualification better so noe Indians will look for opportunities here itself

I agree with you. Gone are the days when best people went to US. Now it is more like people who do not get seats in top Indian colleges. The future is in India. I agree that Indian MBAs and engineers are better than US graduates especially for Indian conditions. Gradually India will also do well in research oriented innovation related jobs. It is just a matter of time. Because of slave mentality inherited by some Indians as a result of British rule that we blindly think west is always better than everything in India.

Some basic common sense of US education
by manoj sharma on Dec 05, 2009 11:29 PM  | Hide replies

The most important thing they teach in US is to think and be action oriented. Something that make life simple, easy. Result oriented. In india education is jargon oriented, too much theory and ratta maro.
Second thing is they teach you how to be good team player, and learn to focus on outcome of team. you, your ego is not important. In india its always about bossing, I AM important, all the time ego-mainiac talk people keep giving.
These points if taken seriously in indian institute, we could be world class too. No need to keep dreaming about america.

Indian Students are smart
by J Rane on Dec 05, 2009 11:25 PM

Indian kids are quite smart, they know that US job market is down and it would be tough for them get a job in the US, once they are out of the school. Most of the Indian kids go to US not to get a degree, but to get a job in the US. IMHO

USA targeting indian employees
by tadaka shekar on Dec 05, 2009 10:59 PM

I think this all becoz of usa govt is targeting india employees. Like they passed a rule that banks who take govt should not employee h1b holders. At same time immigration authorities are riding h1b holders work locations.

It all created a news that if you study in usa you many not get job. at same time aus, britain, uk,singapore and other coutnries are encouraging indian students with many other facilities. This effected indian joining rate usa alot.
