"have begun shunning US educational institutions." - This needs to be judged not by percentage of enrollment, but by number of applicants.
If the number of applicants remains undiminished and/or increased and the enrollment is less, then it means that the institutes are shunning them and not vice-versa.

Interesting point to think....are we now faring bad in quality, trailing in competition.
people were going to US for permanent residency and not to get knowledge. There are enough good colleges in India. except few top universities in US, students as well can join Indian colleges for MBA and computer engineering. Also there are enough things to do research in and on India, no need to run to US

Don't forget the worst Politics we have in India and the Nepotism, always a guy with inferior qualifications, but with Connections win. NoProgress party makes sure that's the way to go.

When Carl Lewis broke the World Record in School, he was recognised. Had he been say a little bit less than that probably he wouldnt have been that famous. Similary we cant have talent which is "exponentially" higher than others we will be defeated by those around us because they will never accept that this exponential is going to infinity in the future.
Unless u have brashing talent u r nowhere. Indians in US shined because they were of brashing talent.
Sabeer Bhatia would have been Sabeer even if he was in Patna, Microsoft would have purchased it from India then !!!

"It started a couple of years ago, but the decline has been steeper than I expected," Nathan Bell, director of research and policy analysis, told India Abroad.
The attitude can be the cause of rise of BPO and Call Centers , who pay ample amt for graduates., so why bother struggling to get higher degrees to land at par to BPO employees. This might be the cause of decline, it is not standard of US education, or relaxation of norms of other countries. US is the leader in research and development, there is no question. Every other country look upto US for everything. India has to invent, not service others . Change the direction of thinking and stop being slaves.. or are we used to be even after independence.!!!

US is not the home of all research, come on give me a break, there are 10 other countries who are spectacular, but US is definetly in the top 5 in not 10
Most of the student go for foreign education to settle in that country. Since US skilled immigration process has a wait of 8-10 yrs for indians and chinese, this is bound to happen.
As long as you have talent...you can get sucess any where....tons of employees went up to VP levels in 4 to 7 yrs.....almost all out Coding troops in US never move up in career lader...remains at same position...still those guys are living in false prestige although many of them reached to 40 ...

I never moved up the ladder at IBM. I am 42. My salary is 320K. Yes, 320K fulltime, not contrctor. So I get all IBM benfits. I could have moved up the career ladder if I trained my guns on it albitt less salary. So its a question of weighing and deciding what is best
