Credit card issues !!!!
by Balasoubramanian Rajamani on Jul 30, 2008 12:52 PM  | Hide replies

I applied for a Silver Card from SBI. Instead they send me Gold.
1. Before using the card, I need to activate as they have mentioned, which I have not done so far.
2. Next month I got the statement with charges for insurance. I called the call centre and told the issue. No response.
3. On 2nd month, they send me statement with penalty of not paying the amount.

This time I got irritated and called the SBI call centre and informed the issue and replied neatly that I will not pay and if they make any such issues, I will inform to RBI and take it to court.

So far I have not got any statement and calls.

But the said bank might have put your name in the "defaulters list" and might even send the name to the national registry (of "defaulters") and you may denied, in the future, any types of loans by any of the banks! All this would happen automatically, as these things are automated by most of the banks. So, much for getting an usolicited credit card and for not paying for it!

CREDIT CARD WITHOUT APPLYING ?
by ramamoorthy ramamoorthy on Jul 28, 2008 12:49 PM

There are several instances where one receives credit card without applying. Mainly this is done by some private banks. This is highly irregular. Such instances should be pursued and the concerned banker warned.

City Bank Card with Insurance Offers
by Vishvesh Vyas on Jul 26, 2008 12:27 AM  | Hide replies

My wife received a number of calls from this bank soliciting her consent for the issue of a "free" credit card. She rejected the offer saying that she does not need it for India as I am staying abroad where we already have another credit card. They repeatedly urged her for this insisting that she does not have to pay anything. One fine morning, she receives a flashy card with strings attached like insurance offer with hefty annual premium etc. This was completely unsolicited and my wife is really disturbed the way they have been after her for expanding their business.
I have been to several countries including USA and have never seen such practices there perhaps due to sound legal framework to protect citizens' rights. This acts as strong deterrent to such eavesdropping. I wish the same happens in India some day.

SBI card experience
by Matha Kamal on Jul 25, 2008 04:52 PM  | Hide replies

One person approached me and begged to take a credit card for his job, so I took one SBI card with free joining fee. After 6 months they gave bill for joining fee 300 etc which i paid as I had srated bit trasanctions, then came they will present cheques later or missing even if I personnely dropped in drop box, charged for late fee, and an insurance for credit shield also started so before 1 month of renewal i paid all dues and wrote no need to renew card. But after 1 month they gave 2.00 as some interest and added with renewal fee etc, story continued now they say I have to pay back 4000 and a lady call me from Chennai with a circasting tone "dont u know you have to pay for what is due, shall we send agents to your home " etc I threatened to give police complaint and now they have stopped , all these are frauds and if you are decent guy you have problem and if you threaten them back they will obligue. Ombudsman etc are also not much effective, just give them 'gaali' or u pay unavailed money and exorbitant fines for money u never had or need

Goto the RBI website, and find make a complain for the same... I had tried this in past, and it always works. RBI will take care of the rest.
