Unnecessarily botheration
by manu sharma on Jul 25, 2008 02:33 PM  | Hide replies

Citibank sent me a card without applying and some 5 years ago as I had a salary account with them with a credit limit of Rs.10000. I used it couple of times and paid some partial amount and after which I lost the card and asked Citibank to close the account and let me know the amount. In between my address got changed and when I called them after 3 months, thy said I'vebalance of Rs12000. When asked how come they said because I have been charge late payment fee of Rs750 thrice and interest, initial amount was around Rs.3800.. I kept on asking them this is not possible but they didn't listen.. Recently I got to know that they have blacklisted me on some portal where banks check credit history because I haven't paid Rs.49000 dues.. I was shocked and don't know what to do, when called Citi they transferred my call to another department and as per the recovery manager they have filed a case against me in court as well and I've to pay to clear the case as well my name from that portal..

Can anybody suggest what should I do in this case?

Unsolicited Renewal Card
by Ajeeth Xavier Parapullil on Jul 25, 2008 02:05 PM  | Hide replies

In 2000 I took an SBI credit card for an annual fee of about Rs 500/-. After one year when I could not find any use for the card I did not request for a renewal. However a renewed card promptly came to me with an annual fee of Rs 600/-. I then contacted the SBI Customer care and informed them about my refusal to accept the card. I kept receiving bills interest upon interest which I ignored and after about two years the card was cancelled by SBI. In 2006, with the advances in IT, I wanted to use a credit card and applied to SBI for the same. I was shocked to receive a rejection note from them saying that I had dues pending (the above mentioned renewal charges and the interest thereupon) and hence could not be issued a card. Even though I argued that this was charges on an unsolicited card, they were not willing to listen and I ended up taking a ICICI card.

you still can't escape from SBI, SBI hires special people called goons who will seriously nag you about the payments due and then you will realise that "You can only from them but you Can't Escape them"

The best way to avoid this nuisance is this
by Sankran Maity on Jul 25, 2008 02:00 PM

This is the best way, at least that is what I have found. But you need a bit of time to do it. Write a letter to the offending bank, if possible in print, make a copy of it, take it to the offending bank, yourself, with the credit card, make sure it is destroyed and get a confirmation of the complaint recieved. And what do you write in the complaint? Write that you are not liable for any misuse of any other cards sent to you unless you apply in writing. If they do that, you are not liable to any possible misuse. Also, remember to note down the name of the person along with the employee id who recieves your complaint. Also, mention that you will not appear in any court or independent arbitrator, regarding cards sent without your express approval. The card issueing authority has to bear all expenses is you have to do so, including loss of pay if you miss office, for which they should not charge you later in any way. But most important, KEEP THE ACKNOWLEDGEMENT COPY WITH YOU SAFELY AND SECURELY so that you can produce it anytime.

simply cut and throw away the unsolicited card

I have received many unsolicited credit cards on top of the solicited card that I hold.
I make it a point to cut them into 4 pieces and trash them away.
It's the easiest way out.

I received a Zabardasti credit card from ABN Amro in 2006. Then they said, its free, no charges, no annual fee, blah, blah,.. Then, in 2007, I started getting bills from them on "outstanding dues of annual fee"!! I refused to pay & then finally emailed them a stinker saying I would complain to the RBI if they sent me another bill!! STORY OVER!!

SBI Credit Card
by Prakash Aswani on Jul 25, 2008 01:51 PM  | Hide replies

A couple of years back, I received a statement from State Bank of India for an alleged credit card that I hadn't applied for. After spending a considerable amount of time, money and energy, I got the same cancelled by the bank's New Delhi office. Last month, I received a statement for a credit of Re.0.71 on the same credit card. As I didn't find the time to follow up with the bank for its cancellation, the bank sent me another statement for the current month showing the same amount of credit. Thereafter, when I wrote to their Chairman lodging my strong protest and threatening them of legal action, I received an apologetic e-mail from them for their error and an assurance that such errors would not recur in future.

icici is the biggest cheat - be it home loans, personal loans, credit cards, insurance policies. they've the habit of forcefully selling the insurance policies to their card holders & the hefty amount is directly charged on the card. if you do not pay - then you receive the calls from the recovery agents.
