fantastic and hilarious!!
by Ayan Roy on Feb 01, 2008 09:09 PM

What a fantastic and hilarious, but thought provoking piece. Loved it. Also certain responses in the Discussion Board, not least the one below me, show why:
1. Many Indians have a very poor sense of humour.
2. Many Indians don't want to change their way of thinking, and just don't want to improve! In fact they are happy breaking rules, spitting and littering and consider that their RIGHT. On the other hand their pants are on fire when Shriya Saran wears a sleeveless top.

I wish God/Nature could enlighten these people gradually so that we can tackle the REAL problems afflicting our society.

Intention is divine but...
by Ravikant Bhat on Feb 01, 2008 11:07 AM  | Hide replies

The intention of the author is divine. I would like to believe this article is a satire that employs exaggeration to the extreme. May be the author has purposely used the tone to highlight the glaring 'extremist' mindset (I do not mean 'terrorist' or 'fundamentalist') that is growing in the society. So I would like to give the author benefit of doubt.

But in case the author sincerely believes in many of those words he has churned, I think I have loads of trouble with him.

Proteins for mid-day meal program, yes. But why eggs? Why not leafy vegetables? Our scriptures (I am a Hindu so I am referring to them) certainly tell a lot on being 'Shuchirbhut'... that includes not spitting paan and the like. Our problem is we don't want to study them.

As for the moral brigade who want to police the dress one wears, I think they go too far sometimes. Let us not forget we are different from the West. Hence, something 'normal' in the West might be 'outrageous' in the east. It will take time to evolve. No need to make scathing remarks. As for Shriya's outfit (I have seen the photo), I think they were just OK. (May be I feel so because I am used to seeing women wearing such stuff in Mumbai). Tam's may take some time to accept it... so be a bit generous to them...

stupid article
by Nandakumar M on Jan 31, 2008 06:24 PM  | Hide replies

what a stupid article by this ediot. If an article has a purpose, it should convey the message positively. This author seems to be ignorant of this basic quality. If he cannot understand the mindset of 'anti-egg' people, how can he expect to have any impact out of this article? Vegetarianism is Indian culture, if you don't even understand why some people are against egg feeding, you atleast stop trying to portray 'indian'ity in you.

NO, vegetarianism IS NOT INDIAN CULTURE. Please take statistics and you will find that more than 40% Indians are non-vegetarians.
Secondly, the kids who don't want to have egg, can refuse to have it. Nobody is forcing meat, egg or fish down their throat. They can have their dal and spinach.
my point is that non-vegetarians should not have to be forced to have only vegetarian food just to "please the sentiments of vegetarians".
Everybody should be free to eat what they want!

Hold on..Lot of people speak on the freedom to eat, freedom to do whatever one need etc..Now , what abt the freedom for these defenseless creatures to exist..When the criminals on the street use thier power to cut human' throat, they cry...But they sent the defenseless to slaughter house...And they want heaven on earth..See any justice in there. And let me tell u, Vegetarianism is very much indian culture...Go to anywhere else in the whole earth..And u won't get this idea anywhere, coz nobody taught them those just as nobody' teching them these in India..ANd lets not speak of % of non-veg and declare statements...Let me tell u, lets not speak of the current status of the scenario...if we go by tht, then we may find many cigarette smokers and conclude tht smoking is good for health when it is written in CAPS tht cigarrette kills....in tht case, we got lot of violence occuring out there, and i'll tel u these are the upgradation of these throat-cut acts after having a good rehersal on the animals and birds tht r slaughtered mercillesly day in and day out...and wht u get..bird flued and mad cowed and foot and mouth..Ohh, by the way its bird flu season back...And time for many to go underground...Let me tell u, out there in the west, people respect u just whn they hear u as a veggie coz they know the value...But its pathetic tht Indians dont understand wht it means to feel for a living entity..It wasnt tht way but then, there should b some means to incite violence and passion ...a

they dont respect you...they think that youre weird. if its about life that you care about when being a vegetarian then its been proven beyond doubt by an indian scientist itself that even plants have that element called 'life'. so then perhaps you shud stick to eating fallen fruits and rotten yellow leaves. the fact is you dont understand the purposes of customs. if you did perhaps then you will realize that they made sense a two thousand years ago. the whole thing about clothes fall under this. if people still gets ho*ny watching a bit of skin, yes it is a problem. but then that has to be corrected in his head.
finally to all that craaaaap that sreekesh you so painfully blurted out....duh!!!

Morality lies in you
by Vibha Das on Jan 31, 2008 01:04 PM

Morality is what lies within you, what has been taught to you over the years to follow. But at the end, it is you yourself who has to decide whether doing something is right or wrong, be it wearing short dresses or practicing a religion. I believe all of us are blessed with human intelligence and we can always predict the consequences of our actions. So lets be wise enough in our conduct and way of living.

aside to writer - Nice article. Keep it up!!

stop being hypocrites
by Ashok Gupta on Jan 31, 2008 12:50 PM  | Hide replies

Suddenly morality and code of conduct is being thrown around. These people should be concerened with preventuing child marriages, dowry deaths, rapes, murders, fighting corruption and many other issues rather than what one should wear or not wear and not protecting people who molest girls as happened in Mumbai on new year.
In the name of religion we are committing acts
and getting away with it.

You guys talking about moral policing, have you seen them in real.My brother in Saudi underwent one situation where he was not wearing any thing to show himself as hindu in UAE(Riadh)and caught by a Moral police. They took him to a room and adviced him what Islam is about.Allah about the almigty and culture.Just for the sake he didnt show his identity and was wearing a gold ring visible to them. Most Mallu Guys Talk Crap on these issues when they go abroad they do what the Arabs say or their Ass Will be Drilled. This is true applys to many immigrants in UAE.Here when politicians shouts on Seeing Actress and Actors or even politicans had wrong attitudes at past they run away.Beware Moral Police is not right every where. Its like a warning. All The Best.
