RE:Tamil Nadu is full of Hindu Temples, Please promote tourism here....

A few years back, while on way to a friend's marriage, we went through a dozen different temple cities of Tamil Nadu, from Chidambaram to Lalgudi, Trichy and Tanjavur. It was a beautiful experience and I really empathize with the feeling that Hinduism was cherished here and still is preserved in the temples. My only wish is to go back sometime to the 1000 pillar temple at Rama Samudram.

Temples in Tamilnadu
by varun varun on Feb 20, 2008 06:26 PM  | Hide replies

There are over 1000 huge temples in south Tamilnadu. Each one of the thousand temples have great significance and speciality. Even to this day you can find instances of relationship between god and man in these areas. They were flourishing towns in the olden times, but neglected by this day politicians. Lot of them are almost in a misrable state. In a day you will get tired by just walking into just 5 temples because they are so big. Famous temples in Tamilnadu are in Kancheepuram, Tiruvannamalai, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Rameshwaram, Kumbakonam, Chidambaram, Sri Rangam, Tiruvaiyaru, Palani and 1000s more.

Kerala and Andhra Pradesh too have great number of temples.

Tourism in South India especially Tamilnadu has great potential, but unfortunately our politicians only promote more of Rajasthan and Taj mahal or Agra. Taj mahal or Agra was more built by muslim kings. More promotions should be given to Hindu built tourist places like Hampi, Big temples in South India and so on.

Alam, Since u r Muslim now, u don't know in what condition your Hindu anscestor had converted to Islam. Now since you no longer realize your roots, u have nothing but praise for Muslim Kings ( who were responsible for your anscestor's conversion). I know that few of them were not fundamentalists and didn't encourage conversions but the fact is that Indian Muslims are product of their conversion policies!

India tourism always display photos of Taj & other mughal forts which is hardly 500 years old but fails to promote our true architectural wonders like temples in Tamil Nadu which was more than 3000 years old. Recently ASI found a lost city near Pondicherry which was atleast 4000-5000 years with Tamil scripts having trades with Romans and greeks. Indian politicians failed to recognize this. But the foreign tourists are well informed through foreign traveller guide (viz Planet). Indian politicians (dominated by NOrth) want to suppress Tamil's pride but shamelessly recognize other civilizations outside india.
Just imagine lot of shops and hotels around Taj. It will never look good. That is the situation to many Tamil Temples. If anyone wish to visualize Madurai Meenakshi temple without any shops/ building around, i would say it would be the greatest architectural marvel in the world.
