What is your TSH level? If it is 0.4 or lower, it may be indicative of early Hyperthyroidism. In that case, you need to get the Free T3 and Free T4 done to confirm the diagnosis.

May be you can reduce the intake of salt and see if it helps & also yoga or meditating or listening light music (instrumental) can help a lot.

Pravin,
Putting on weight is a problem if you suffer from Thyroid even if you are taking thyrid medicine. In my experince, my doctor has advised me to concously watch my weight and follow a healthy diet as Hypothyroid does cause harmoinal imbalance and reduced metabolism.
The only way it has worked for me is by diet control and regular exercise , About 40 mins of brisk walk regularly.

Regards
Ravinder

If you are taking Thyronorm tablets, you are suffering from Hypothyroidism. You should visit the doctor at least once in 6-12 months. Serum TSH estimation is recommended once in a year to two to ensure that the dose of Thyronorm that you are taking is adequate. If it is more than 6 with medication, you may need adjustment of dose in addition to the diet regime suggested by Mr Ravinder Singh. You may try Thyrox 200 tablets that are cheapest in the market instead of Thyronorm.

If the TSH levels are normal, you need to do a strict dieting with added exercise like walking for about an hour daily.

Dear Phillips,

She must consult an endocrynologist and should get her Lipid profile also done immediately. One of the biggest side effects of Hypothyroid is rise on Chlestrol levels. I had an extraordinary levels of Cholestrol ( 600 ) due to Hypothyroid.

Start her on medicine and as rightly mentioned in the article, its just artificial harmone administered through pills. She will feel a lot better.

Ignoring it is not an option.

Dear Sanjan...
Yes there is relation....hypothyriodism can cause increase in cholestrol level.

Me myself experienced it. At one time my total cho. was 304 (which is very high). Fortunaltely doctor found out it was due to high TSH arnd 93.
Once I started taking ELTROXIN my cholostrol level decreased to 161 whithout taking any cholostrol lowering medicine.

Cheers

Sir/Madam
If you are taking medication for hyper thyroidism(over functioning) then that may not be life long. Becuase all over functioning end up in hypo sonner or later and then you will need Thyroxine hormone as tablet which is only a supplement and it does not produce any side effects if taken in right quantity. If you ahve hyper thyroidism you must consult a Thyroid Specialist.
