Sir,
I was detected with Hypothyroidism in 1997.I have been having Eltroxin since then. How long does one have to take these tablets ? Also , does having these tablets cause any complications when one wants to conceive ?

Awaiting your response

In all likelihood, you will have to take Eltroxin or Thyrox or Thyronorm tablets lifelong. There are practically no side effects in the dose that is normally taken as replacement therapy. As long as the serum T3, T4 and TSH levels are within normal limits, you need not worry about conception because of thyroid disorder. Remember, your hypothyroid problem has been CORRECTED.

T3 and T4 mean the total hormone circulating in the blood. More than 99.9% is in BOUND form and is not available for physiological purposes. It is the other minuscule percentage that is physiologically active and constitutes the FREE fraction of the hormone. Although TOTAL T3 & T4 give a fair indication of the status of the thyroid, it is the FREE fraction that gives an accurate assessment of the status of the thyroid.

If you have no symptoms, don't bother. On the contrary, estimation of T3, T4 and TSH that may cost you less than 200 rupees is harmless and you may breathe a sigh of relief if they are normal. In that case, take the advice given by Mr N Singh.

What are her blood levels of T3, T4 and TSH? Has she undergone a Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology? If so what is the report? Send your reply to drynianand@gmail.com.

I faced similar situations. Treated at Kailash Hospital (Noida) by Dr. Uma Sharma. The main medicine given was thyronorm.
Keep patience. Follow doctor's advice.

Hi Mukund!

I have a little experience in working out solutions for TSH enhanced conditions. Your TSH is just over normal , which is not a matter of serious concern. However, I would suggest you talk to your doctor for correct dosage of Thyroxin, the oft used corrective medicine. A small dose in addition to certain foods ommission like Iodised salt, fish less intake would suffice in your case.

Also on the significant side, you must exercise well on regular basis. Take good quantity of Vitamin C too.

If you have no symptoms, you may ignore a slightly elevated TSH (not TCH). Symptoms of Hypothyroidism include lethargy, sleepy feeling, weight gain, loss of appetite, constipation, hair loss, change in voice, coarse and dry skin or facial swelling. Chances are that you will have none of the above, since the earliest indicator of hypothyroidism is elevation of TSH. All the above develop over a period of 4-6 months.

Mr. Venkat, you can practice simple pranayams daily for atleast half an hour. No thyroid problem nor any cancerous growth in your body can ever occur. In fact, Pranayams like Kapalbhathi, Anulom Vilom, bhramari, ujjai etc. can cure almost every disease in totality. only thing, you have to do it sincerely and achieve the result. There is no short-cut for that nor can someone outsource for practising pranayam on his behalf. For more details switch on youyr TV, tune to Aastha Channel daily 6.00 to 8.00 and 20.00 to 21.00 you can see live how it is practised under able guidance of Swami Ramdevji of Pathanjali Yogpeeth and University, Utharanchal... Vande Matharam.. Loka Samastha Sukhino Bhavanthu...

What tests were done and what were the values. The values should be interpreted carefully when the symptoms are persisting. You should not reduce without reports suggesting the same. You may need to increase the dose with a Dr's supervision.

Hi Sonia!

My advice is: stop it immediately. What otherwise is your doctor's advice? And, most importantly, you ought to correct your perception that weight gain could be checked through less of food intake. Infact, such practices only can aggravate your situation. Instead please focus on such diet, which does not contribute to your weight, which you can explore through so many ways.
