how men change
by saikat on Jul 25, 2006 06:12 AM

Once upon a time I was one of the vociferous advocate of feminism, and used to get into heated fights with friends who stereotyped women.

Some how somewhere down the line the line I realized that feminism might have its uses in the poorer and less privileged sections of the society, but most females in my strata used it as a catch phrase to have the best of both worlds. They wanted to have a career without committment i.e if my boss demands I work I shud be able to quit without worrying about financial repurcussions - so marry rich. On the other side of the looking glass the atitude that the very gesture that I am working is good enough, productivity and dedication is for male colleagues.

Almost 90% females I spoke to said it was imperative that there husbands has to be more qualified and earn more than they do, (one of the most infamous statements by a classmate of mine in Engineering - "Pati kaise bhi ho paise wala hona chahye)

I realized that the entire concept of equality was a myth, and women were there own biggest enemy to their cause. For a man not being able to stomac a woman's su ccess was a consequence of her disdain for him being less successfull than her.

TRUE...I WANT MY DAUGHTER TO BE TOUGH
by S. S. Sridas on Jul 25, 2006 02:38 AM

Hi Zelda,

Your article says the truth...it is very good...I am bringing up my child in that way...so that at least she takes care of herself. It is very important for the parents not to show any partiality between the children, when it comes to anything whether it is good or bad...make them know what is happening around 'em and/or what has happened around 'em? It will help them to learn what is what...this way it will help the kids grow with self-confidence.

Thank you,

'I want my daughter to be tough'

Absolutely Zelda, that is a great article and written so well, so practical, nothing of that bra-burning feminist attitude of men are MCPs or whatever. It really tackles the issue of why girls need to be tough, yes, as it is girls/women are tougher in the mind, but for them the world could never have produced men of character, but now women not only have to teach they have to prove to men too that they are the tougher one really! Good mothers teach this way, thanks Zelda, that's the way to teach, positively!!

Rightly said, women shd no longer be dependent on anyone and shd be willing to take up challenges and I think today's women are on the right track

Hi,

Your article was a real eye opener. I think this will encourage more mothers to think ahead of time for their daughters.

I want my daughter to be tough too...

I think Zelda's hit the nail on the head!!! It's a madhouse out there and our children, be it girls or boys, need to be tough. I have a son and a daughter myself, and I try to be as strict and impartial to them as I can. Yes, less dolls and more fun stuff definitely helps...

Awesome piece of writing!

Very well-written article. It really echoes so many of my mom's thoughts. Hope I have been handling things well so far and continue to be tough in life if the situation demands it.
