by sandeep on Oct 23, 2005 06:53 AM

living alone is good if left the for good reason like for better career and studies. To find a good locality in strange area is very difficult, how is my neighbours. Nobody is helpful to new person in locality especially to boys. To find homely food is also very difficult.

One who enjoys is own company is the luckiest, so stop sounding like matyrs to a cause, the benefits are enormous if u r the freedom loving type and who isnt.

living alone in london

living far from india is NOT a drea...its worse than a nightmare.I have worked as a radio presenter and am currently doing my MA in Media and Communication Management from London. I will never stay here after my course. There is no point living as a 2nd class citizen in a country that can never be your own. I miss India every second of my stay in London.

alone vs lonely big diff
by Shrikant on Oct 23, 2005 12:01 AM

I think we all know what it means to live alone vs feeling lonely. For women in Bombay, it could be tough, for guys it can be tougher too, esp in societies where they think single men could be equally problematic.
My survival tips have always been to be a self dependant individual with survival skills as laid out in the Survivor manual!
I have somehow built up a good resistance system within which has not let me fall ill in the last 10 years of mine living alone. I have been stressed out by the traffic esp around the Oshiwara area, and I have always believed that I can manage the minor stresses easily. Maybe that's why my body has always been with me and I will make sure it will support me all along.
Meeting and spending time with friends boosts up ones immune system too, just like a good laugh does. I also tune into the radio as it helps me keep my environment around chirpy and alive.
Would love to hear more from single occupants like me :)

Living Alone!

I learnt lessons which i would have never learnt otherwise.

I learnt "What true friendship means" as against the so called socializing group.

I learnt "the value of parents" and the love they have for you.

I learnt to "Accept" certain things in life. I learnt to get out of "fear". I overcame the feeling of insecurity... the list is never ending..

Living alone is the only time in life you learn. So try to live alone for some time. It'll be very tough and you'll face many problems... but nothing can shake you later.

Living Alone

I liked this article as I too had been living alone and that too when my children were growing up in their formative years and my husband was posted outside India for a better prospect as we saw it.Neighbors were very nosy and as I was a teacher, I had my circle at school. Some people from that circle frustrated us so much because of jealousy or whatever reasons but my family ...parents and my in laws and also husband stood by me always. Most of the celebs have said that family is the most important security system..I agree fully.Friends mostly derail...good friends are rare.At the end of it all,I can say that life has ups and downs...we must not give up at any point but live and face it all bravely. We get a strong sense of achievement later as we look back at life.

You got to know for sure
by Paras Shah on Oct 22, 2005 09:01 PM

The most important thing is that you should know the exact reason why you are living independently, away from home.

Some do it for change or getting away from a painful past, others for education and career building.

but one must remember, no matter how much money, independence or friends you can make living out there alone (and not that i am against it), the family is the one whose door bell you can ring at 3 in the morning and say "I am gonna be here from now on.". Family stays with you across distances and through rough waters and rainy days.

Although it may sound contradictory, living away from family for some time is a must. It makes us realise the importance of our loved ones & family members.

Thanks,
Paras Shah
