India is a successful nation.According to the survival of the fittest theory, the population of this country is going to increse exponentially, and so it has. Unfortunately, India possesses the qualities requird for survival, and not quality of living.
QOL is what we "aspirational set" are looking for.Bottom line. We dont give a damn as to the needs of India, if they dont match our own.We got needs of our own which must be satisfied.Anyone who thinks otherwise is a loser and a fool.Great Countries were built on the sacrifices of individuals. but the sacrifices were for themselves eventually. My personal feeling is this: The nature of India, its structure, society, rules prevent changes of great magnitude happening quickly. No serious development (call centres-oh my God) has happened in India a long time, and nothing will for a time to come. This is what we try to escape, through education, one way or the other. Dr Abdul Kalam's dream of "A developed Nation by 2020"while a vision for the country to strive towards,is sadly, a pipe dream realised by anyone who has been in a developed nation. I think of the Matrix everytime im abroad, of the world thats been pulled over our eyes.
Rashmi Help! I am an engineering grad.want to pursue ME but the big money in IIM'S ATTRACTS ME.which is the best career choice. Not interested both in Engg. or Management. But i feel that going after MBA i am wasting my engineering years.
It is right that graduation in technical background like engineering and mba in finanace make no sense. Best specialisation in mba for engineers is system, marketing, ppc etc and for non technical people marketing, human resource , finance ( for commerece graduate ) is the best No doubt exceptions are everywhere. I know a professional who is a master in finance field, travelled all over world as a finance superbrain but currently working as a HRD manager in Africa.. Is'nt it funny ?
this article is a perfect example of what we say garbage in garbage out, anybody who is motivated or is aspired to achieve the goals they have sat for themself is gonna make it either way. i have seen engineers who cannot even talk their mind therefore if u wanna be an MBA be proud to be one and develop the right skills. business are not asking for number crunchers they are askin for heads, u walk out of india and u will realise the type of skills we are being tested on to be MBA are not the most desired ones here people learning how to get together with stuff like multiculturalism, and satisfying businesses. engineers can be made good clerks but i am not sure about their capabilities as managers. so just chill out and be aspired to achieve what ever goal u have set.
I read the article. It is one of the best I have ever read on IIMs and MBAs. However, it did pose one question about the education system in India that needs radical changes. Why in the god's holy India a commerce graduate and science graduate is separated in schools? How would a 14-15 year old kid know which stream he/she is interested in? I think US education system is best for "this". And I mean "this" becoz i do know it is not flawless. But, the fact remains the same. In US an undergrad student can change the major upto the Senior year of college or can even have dual major. One in engineering and the other in arts or commerce or whatever. This really makes sense. The only problem in India is the system tell you what you can become and what you can not. Let, the students decide what they want to do. Believe me this would fill up some gaps between engrs and non engrs. Another thing I don't understand is the reason for such a competition. I hope somebody would clarify this to me. Here in US, an illiterate and illegal Indian (owner of gas station or motel) makes more money than any IIM graduate. So, if it is about money than people have more choices than doing just MBA.
For years I carried this impression and debated endless hours on this with lot of my friends. How on earth would one justify asking 'mathematical equations' for 'Managing people'? To be fair towards all students, exam must have more case studies and that brings out the real talent in a person. But this is the problem with the system which does not look at improvements and is under the influence of few 'engineering' minds.
There is another angle for the popularity of CAT. It has to do with the greed and corrupt minds of training institutes who make money out of people's aspirations. If not for these people, CAT would have definitely lost it's charm for it's stupid methodology.
Being an optimist, i strongly feel one day this system would be changed. All these people who join in IIT and then in IIM would obviously work abroad. What the country gets in educating these people is not clear ...
Hope more articles like these come out to educate people about the realities in the system.
i wud jus like to say tht i still dont get da point tht how will an engineering graduate be more successfful as an HR manager and not a commerce or BA fello. Biases, this world is simply of tht.
