Introspect Don't Blame
by Anjukulam on May 23, 2009 09:48 PM

When will these BJP people ever realize that they are responsible for their loss. Why keep blaming others. If that is the case then they will not survive as apolitical party for long.

River metaphor

"...Jan Sangh was re-born as the BJP"
-------------

We need to understand that BJP is fundamentally different from Jan Sangh. Its genesis lies in Emergency period when Jan Sangh leaders met other leaders Socialists, Communists and Congress(O) leaders. This led to Janata Party under leadership of Morarji Desai, which later split and led to creation of BJP. Those who did not consider RSS communal joined BJP and this included many Socialists.

Distilled in BJP is also the now defunct Swatantra Party.

To comprehend the issue in fair proportion we need a metaphor. Water in Ganga comes not just from Gangotri. The vast and varied knowledge streams which constitute political thought of BJP comes from diverse sources and new knowledge shall continue to be received.

This constricting of BJP to the confines of Jan Sangha is bit of a stretch. Wish Tarun Vijay could say less of "Jan Sangham sharanam gacchami" and more of "Bharatam sharanam gacchami"!

BJP and Ganga? no way! Water in Ganga is the Indian polity and its people, and BJP is the pollution from which we have to purify it.

Leave This
............
Leave this chanting and singing and telling of beads!

Whom dost thou worship in this lonely dark corner of a temple with doors all shut?

Open thine eyes and see thy God is not before thee!

He is there where the tiller is tilling the hard ground

and where the pathmaker is breaking stones.
.........
Gitanjali by Rabindranath Tagore
----------------

As former Prez Kalam said "politics of politics" lost. BJP needs to embrace the Kalam's message "politics of development" and the essence of Bharatiyata.

Time for this silly brand
To stop traverse
On this dreary sand
Leave this strand
With no footprints!

ideology is not unimportant
by Nandakumar Chandran on May 23, 2009 07:42 PM

but it is not more important that the factors that constitute basic welfare. as the panchatantra says : without the belly being full, neither wit nor wisdom is possible. vivekananda is an ascetic - you cannot expect the average hindu to have his level of committment to the dharma at the cost of his life.

hindutva must get its priorities right. by all means fight against radical islam and evengalical christianity - but side by side also concentrate on economic development (which bjp always has). and by all means talk more about the latter than the former. rather about the former do the work silently.

india needs two parties
by surajit som on May 23, 2009 05:49 PM  | Hide replies

linguistic mumbo-jumbo will not give BJP majority.one or two leaders in the eighties wont help.where are the new generation/new leaders? why BJP is losing state after state ,why their state govts are not performing ? where is inner party democracy? when it comes to second tier leaders ,the same faces .2014 could be even worse than 2009. that will be tragedy not only for BJP but also for indian democracy.because it is only the BJP which can be alternative to congress.left has been demolished ,regional parties have been shattered and are now begging for a ministership or two . will we go back to the time when only one party ruled all over india?
