i think you are kind of right but it is always good to have two strong rival political organisations for a healthy democracy.it will be good if the bjp can find a charismatic hardworking young candidate to replace atalji to make it stronger.do nto want the politics of 70 s and 80s to be repeated when only the congress party was strong and took the country for a ride.

The Left Front saga
by ranadeep das on May 18, 2009 11:13 AM  | Hide replies

Left always come up with good questions. But neither they have answer nor they allow someone to answer. This is time for them to shift from destructive criticism to constructive Criticism. Progress of any country depends upon basic infrastructure like irrigation projects, roads, power plants, fertilizer plants etc. These projects depends upon long term borrowings. Unlike Banks and Government budgets, long term borrowings depends mostly on long term debt funds like Pension fund and Insurance fund. Left didn't approve any of these two reform bills. In this recession environment loans are also not available from Global development funds. Hope we will see faster economic reforms and core sectors will now get the required CAPEX support.

You may have some knowledge in economics. However, to most ordinary people like us,it appears very dangerous to open up foreign market for pension, provident fund, bank and insurance - since we fear that then our money will become vulnearble to the meltdown in foreign markets!

Hi Das, A perfect reading of the situation. Destructive criticism is a deep rooted evil amoungst Indians, and is more dominant in the views of the Commies.

Free market economics is not good for the country.
SEZ is a dangerous approach which is a threat to our sovereignty and freedom.
Communism and capitalism are not advisable. Let us follow middle path.
Mega loans with strings which are negotiated without transparency curtails our freedom and dignity.
N-deal put us in deep debt trap.
N-deal take away our sovereignty and freedom.
N-deal will force India to sign NPT, CTBT, FMCT and what not.
It allows undercover agents to operate freely in India soil.

Although an ardent BJP supporter, I hail Congress Win!!
by Watch Out on May 18, 2009 11:12 AM  | Hide replies

Whatever said and done, Congress is the only national party which can do business with all and sundry, be it J&K/WB/Kerala/Manipur/Assam, it really has a very wide outreach and at this point in time India needs a stable Govt. BJP has to do a lot of soul searching and become a national level party in true sense, untill such time BJP dont have much hope!

And I think the hindus are a minority now just like the brahmins and so we should ask congress to give us quota too. Hindus and Brahmins should get their own quota since the congress only understands quota politics. No crying majority majority as we are indeed the minorities in our own country. And one more thing- yes BJP has lost as it did not deserve to win with the people who stood for the elections.

What are you saying ? India is not Hindu's own country. Aryans came through Afgan border to the banks of River Indus and got the name of Indu or Hindu.Out of 200 Congress MPs 80% are Hindus. In Kerala where Hindus are only 50% of the population, out of 20 MPs 13 are Hindus. India belong to Muslims, Christians , Sikhs , Jains and Hindus who came from outside.Only Dravidians were here earlier.

Communist confusion
by VENURAJA Bowenpalle on May 18, 2009 11:10 AM

The biggest riddle is why Bengalis have shown the door to communists.
The voting percentage shows that Trinamool Congress voting share increased by 10% which resulted in her getting 19 seats more !!! her tally increased from 1 to 20.
Congress vote share also increased but not enough to gain seats on its own,tie up with Trinamul was a life saving act.

Communist lost about 6% votes, but the difference with Trinamul increased to 16% votes.
That is really good since they lost sense with reality.

How long do you preach 'idealogy' to poor people?.
Singur incident could have been a big blow to communists but if not for Singur what could have happened?
Do communists would have won the elections? No, simply you can say no because the rural sector was not the same as it was 5 years ago.

There are many pockets of new affluence which is exhibited by millions of cell phones, and millions of motorbykes purchased by rural area people.

The communist party top ranks either lost touch or stopped listening to lower level cadre which resulted in top ranks living in pipe dreams. These pipe dreams allowed them to oppose the central govt. and go forth with the noconfidence motion.
Opposing USA did not bring any muslim votes, additionally, rural area people considered CPI/CPM simply as a nuisense.
In Bengal now, the communists shall fight for their survival. Mamata may force an early election for Bengal assembly.

The real reason they lost...
by Tim on May 18, 2009 11:04 AM  | Hide replies

There is only one real reason why the communists lost and will continue till their end.

It is because it is a barbaric and idiotic ideology, and the world over it is crumbling. Even their so called heroes like Marx and Stalin are not heroes in their own country anymore.

The reason that it is not happened in India is because most of their cadres are poor, hard working people who will believe anything their leaders fool them with. But not any more. A worker has started to question when Karat can make so much money why not them?

Communism is in its end in the world and that is the real reason.

COMMUNISM IS NOT DEAD. Its funadamentally a good ideology but extremely abused everywhere and in everyplace. All Communists, whether in Russia or East Europe or China, or even Bengal, did good work initially and then came their lust for power...which ultimately destroyed them. Take Romania for instance...Ceacescu...he was hounded out and slaughtered. And yet he did do a lot for Romania in the intial 2 decades.

Communism has also been an important anti-dote to unscupulous Capitalism...we are seeing the fate of USA and some West European countries today.

There has to be a blend between different ideologies and fundamentally People have to be honest. Everything else is negotiable but not Honesty.

That is what I meant in the first place. Communism is only good initially when you fool the people and being them to your fold. Once you do that All the so called preachers become monsters.

Communism is the Worst ideology. Say that to your son/daughter. Tell them not to struggle too hard, Become big, start a business, achieve and become an entrepreneur. They will disown you the next day.

Results a mixed bag
by J Chandrasekhar on May 18, 2009 11:00 AM  | Hide replies

The results are a mixed bag of both positives and negatives. Positive side is waning popularity of left, cine stars (Chiru and others in TN), and decisive numbers for ruling party

Negative side are rise of increasing clout od Rahul who is going to perpetuate the dynastic rule. Communal Cong that would inspire terrorists, and pseudo secularists
