There are many Vegetable Shops abutting vote bank slums with a Nehru/Indira/Rajiv statues Owned by Cong-I street leaders and also a stake in malls where everything is available!
BJP will take time to enact these things at a future date!

An analysis on why congress won
by Tan on May 18, 2009 06:43 PM  | Hide replies

The national percentage of people casting votes is about 48% i.e 48 out of every 100 eligible for voting actually did vote. The rural percentage is much higher, the urban is lower. Also the minority contribution is lower than the average. With all of these facts one would expect the BJP to do better but they havent and the fact is that even in this demographic the voter is clearly fed up the horrendous communal incidents that happened in different parts of the country. So upset that one has discounted other significant events that should have mattered : 1) Price Rice 2) Inaction over terrorism. That really underscores the fact that BJP has to get rid of the extreme fascists elements in their group and let the middle of the road, intelligent leaders(and they have a number of them) take over.

Where EXACTLY did you get the number 48%? I thought it was closer to 60%. Anyway, I think your analysis is correct.

2014
by Very Far on May 18, 2009 06:41 PM  | Hide replies

No harm in being the opposition leader as long as Advani does not agaisn project himself as an asapirant for the PM.
Advani could perhaps revise the BJP by pushing to the forefront a younger and discipined generation with proven track record.
The BJP should also sponsor a national daily and a TV to air its worldview and philosophy.

Advani should take out a Somnath to Geneva Yatra and bring the Swiss Bank money back. After all, he has massive mandate of people when his party carried out the stunt of mini-referendum in Gujarat, before the election.

Reasons for BJP defeat
by Sanjeev Sharma on May 18, 2009 06:40 PM  | Hide replies

Reason for defeat is Modi and Varun. Varun won by a good margin because of his communal speech but BJP suffers badly. Modi ugly speeches like budhiya, gudiya,Majboor PM,Afzal guru etc. tarnished BJP image , even he
couldn't increase BJP tally in Gujarat in spite of his good governance . If modi would have talked more on development and security and varun would be expelled from BJP on giving communal speech results would be different. Similarly BJP wiped out in Orissa because of communal violence done by their goons.

NDA should have projected clean image leaders like Shivraj Chauhan, Jaitley or even Nitish kumar as the leader of NDA. People of India have become smart now , they vote only for those who do development work in India. Example Delhi,Karnataka,Bihar,Orissa, Chattisargh, Andra Pradesh , etc.
Ram , Mandal politics has now failed to catch votes.

We do not need any Opposition party in India
by Radha Krishnan on May 18, 2009 06:36 PM

Now, Sonaji, Rahulji, Priyankaji and their sons or daughters, their grand-sons and grand daughters will rule India for another 100 years. India will prosper and prgress under Gandhi dynasty. So we do not need any opposition party in India. BJP should be dissolved and it leaders should start running provision stores or vegitable shops.
