It is amusing to read most messages on this board writing obituaries of BJP. Well, good luck!

While nothing can be taken away from congress for their superlative performance, it will be foolish to assume that people have validated their key policies on Economy and national security.

What has changed?

. Do we really believe Manmohan is not a weak prime minister. Does it take rocket science to know that for virtually every decision, he is dependent on Sonia?
. I agree he is honest but what honesty is of use when all key ministries are full of corruption (Telecom/Coal/Mines/Steel/Aviation) and he looks on haplessly? DMK clearly asked for plum ministries against the money spent on elections...Why???
.Terrorists are going to be encouraged. No one will take a stand against terror because it will offend Minorities. Ask this question to you, honestly? I sometimes wonder why should minorties get offended when there are traitors from other countries attacking their motherland? Is the Religion everything and Country Nothing?

Let us find honest answers to these!!

Swiss Bank election stunt.

Mr Advani owes it to the country to continue fighting for getting Indian money from Swiss Banks. He must prove to the country that it was not just an election stunt.

You still believe that Swiss Bank issue was not an excuse to ask for votes? Now let him at least try to get it from Swiss Banks. Don't let him claim that when in opposition, he is helpless. Opposition also can be effective in democracy.

JGN, read my comment carefully. Dedication can not be conditional. Do you mean to say that Advani's commitment to Swiss Bank issue was valid only if he was elected to power? I want that he tries hard, sitting in opposition and proves his honest commitment on this issue. Actually, you are passing the buck. BJP carried out a stunt of mini-referendum in Gujarat by collecting paper slips from citizens and declaring that 99 % citizens want Swiss Bank money back. They have the referendum mandate. Let them keep trying. If they are in opposition, so what? Let it not be an excuse.

Sukumar,
To get the Swiss Money back, the Govt has to send a formal request to Swiss Bank through Swiss Govt.
I dont think Swiss Govt will entertain a request from Opposition Leader.
And do you think Congress will send a request because Advani has asked for it?

Reason for Decline of BJP
by Paul Rufus on May 18, 2009 05:34 PM  | Hide replies

I feel the real reason of the BJP's defeat is that it promised hindus the ram temple and kept on postponing. Ok it depended on its allies to run the govt but in the process it was digging its own grave. It should have chosen Ram temple or Power. They should have known that its only Ram temple bought them to power. They postponed it indefinately and now people do not take their word.
I am no supporter of BJP and I think this may be a big reason why they lost on few electrate

You are fool. Just trying to say irrelevant things.

BJP has won 116 (last time 137). 116 is a good strength. You can not say it rejected or defeated.

BJP suffered from lack of good coalition strength. Except for JD)U), all other were in poor shape and lost miserably and had no support- INLD, Shiv Sena, Akali Dal etc.

Its allies who deserted it like TMC, BJD performed very well. The problem is that except for BJP all other political parties are dependent on min0rity vote bank.

The majority of middle class voters(till now loyal to BJP) chose to vote for Congress as they wanted the existing regime to continue in the hour of recession and terrorism at its worst in India this year. This is similar to people overwhelmingly voted for BJP in 1999 after Kargill war. Mumbai attack which killed 300 people, a real lapse of UPA Govt, turned out to be a boon for UPA Govt among urban voters.

Also, Congress getting rid of regional blackmailers like Lalu, Paswan, MSY worked well in UP.

Situations, Circumstances, timings keep on changing. This verdict neither against BJP not for Congress. Analysis has revealed that there was only a 3% for Congress to take it its tally from 145 to 202 and BJP lost 2% votes to lose 22 seats.
