Nitish Kumar should dump BJP immediately.
by Robin Hood on May 16, 2009 01:57 PM

The allies have nothing to gain by sticking with BJP. They should start dumping it immediately like the way BJD, TC etc did.

Manmohan Singh must now start delivering results....
by Sundaram on May 16, 2009 01:55 PM  | Hide replies

While Dr. Singh needs to be congratulated for leading the UPA to victory along with Ms. Gandhi, he better avoid being complacent:

a) Now with the toublesome Left out of his cabi
net, he should speed up his decision making
and implementation.
b) It is time to bring in much younger elements
into his cabinet, at least as MoS so that
they get their neophyte training to become
full fledged ministers later. Younger ones
like Rahul Gandhi, Sachin Pilot. Murusoli
Maran def deserves a place as a full fledged
minister after doing an excellent job as a
Telecom Minister previously. He can be con-
sidered for the same ministry or something
like Infrastructure or Program Implement-
ation or exports which can make use of his
global exposure and dynamism. His successor
was coiled up in corruption cases.

c) Sheila Dixit has done an outstanding job as
CM and can be considered for infrastruct-
ure development for her to replicate her
success on an all India canvass.

d) Nationally, there is considerable anger
at the UPA govt for not having done anything
for the thousands of IT professionals who
have been rendered jobless. As Mr. Narayana-
murthy suggested, they deserve an unemploy-
ment safety net that guarantees them full
salary for the first 12 months, 75% for the
second year and 50% for the third year. I
hope your next Labour Minister is a little
more proactive.

All you points are correct, except point (d). If software guys have lost jobs, its a global incidence. One thing, when the software guys earning was like a dream run who did they credit it to?? Did the common man gain anything from them earning dream salaries???

If the GOI is today sitting on a stock-pile of US$250-300 Bn in FE, it is mainly due to the SW projects executed by IT professionals both onsite and in India. And this FE earned belongs to the people of India. It has helped GOI make quick imports of foodgrains or submarines whenever required. Just realize just before Narasimha Rao & Dr. Singh took over from opposition, India had just $1 M of FE, enough to last for a week's imports. One of the earlier PMs airlifted 55 M tonnes of Gold to a UK Bank to raise more FE.
If today, we are comfortable with our FE reserves, a major part of credit goes to the IT professionals. Should not the rest of us look after them when they are in trouble, if we are fair minded nation ?

It is sad Chidambaram has lost the elect-ions. Unless the UPA has def plans of bringing him back thro' some other bye-
election, a heavy weight like Pawar can easily take over as HM. He has the necess-ary experience, clout and determination to make a success of his new assignment.
The Agricultural ministy is like a part time job for this capable person.

We want Rahul Gandhi as the PM
by Robin Hood on May 16, 2009 01:51 PM  | Hide replies

The Congress will secure two-thirds majority on its own if it projects Rahul as PM. People want candidates with honesty, clean image, peaceful and unifying personas as their PM. Not criminal mass-murderers and today's results show what happens if you do that!

The very fact that u say that if rahul is projected as PM congress will secure two-thirds show that ppl like u have nothing to do with image, peace or unity. It is just the slave mentality that comes to the fore. Take a look at the statement "Rahul will become prime minister when he desires."

Today India has proved that it deserved the terror strikes that had crippled us for five years. We have none to blame but ourselves; a low percentage turnout in mumbai which was seething with anger post 26/11 proves just that.
