Your comment, and the comments of some others below, are more biased than any media house I know. Lets not our biases make us paint a honest hard-working mediaperson who was only doing his job seem like the villian of the piece.

Watch NDTV and IBN just for 2 hours non-stop and you'll feel like thrashing all the overhyped media people. And pls dont call them hard working and poor, they've earned crores of rupees from Congress to set up anti-NDA atmosphere in their link.

The journalist may delude himself that he is hones, but he ain't fooling nobody.
Our opinions when voiced, don't create as much as the opinions of these journalists who's opnion reaches thousands and which influence others. It is imperative that the journalist should be more responsible.
My bias only affects me. But bias from rediff might affect thousands. That's the difference

Mamta is an expert hooligan
by Parichay on May 06, 2009 10:37 AM  | Hide replies

Mamta is an expert hooligan .... know nothing about economics and finance.

What is the economical devlopment plan TMC has?

share it in the post...plz.

Mamta is interrupting every devlopment effort in Bengal.

She throw Tata-Nano out of Bengal after being heavily financed by opposite business class.
Noe she has bought Star-Ananda (electronic Media),Ananda Bazar (Print media) and using them.....we know who gave you the money.

Even if a single road is being expand TMC cadares are disrupting the effort.

Bengal is a densely-populated state....even being a small state in size it is having second largest number of Lok shabha seats (42)..it is so densely populated.

Land aquisition has to be a problem here...but we need to calculate our loss-gain unbiasedly.

Mamta is doing this politics of disruption be'coz if Buddha Dev succeed to improve the economy and employment she will be of no value.

CPM in past did a lot of wrong things in respect to economy...we supported them....bad mistake.....TMC doing the same thing now....should we support again this negetive politics to hinder ourselves oe more time?

Support whomsoever, you ppl are bound to suffer. The biggest sin has been to keep the same party in power for 32 years. Now you are in a catch 22 situation. The best option for you is to vote Mamta into power in next assembly. Then she will take the CPM goons to task for the next 5 years. Then you can once again vote CPM to power. This time they will work sincerely so that ppl vote them again becuase by then they would come to know the difference between remaining in power and losing it. And the sheer fright of getting the stick again will drive them to work sincerely. This is why all the intellectuals are saying "Paribartan chai".

Bengalis need to be more inclusive of differing Ideas
by Argumentative Indian on May 06, 2009 10:33 AM  | Hide replies

Bengalis are intelligent, skilled & the Prabasi Bengali is frequently a successful professional. WB has the world's most fertile land & good rains.

Yet WB is one of the poorest states of India.

Ofcourse the CPIM's strong arm tactics, shortsightedness & the centers complete apathy are all contributory to this situation.

However, there is also another factor.
IMHO, the average Bengali cannot accept divergent ideas / opinions, "I am right, but you are also right, even though different" usually, it is either or, "Either I am right OR you are right".
e.g. Sourav is a fantastic leader, but human like any of us. However it is impossible to critique Sourav, without getting into a passionate argument with a Benagli.
This makes life black and white, eliminating greys.

This has also contributed to acceptance of communism, to the exclusion of other ideas.

I hope the average Bengali, will become a little more inclusive of differing ideas and opinions.

Attack on Rediff Contributor ...
by kishan agarwal on May 06, 2009 10:30 AM  | Hide replies

Our Indian politicians are used to playing such games. Unless thoroughly investigated and proved, it can't be confirmed that "Trinmool" goons played the mischief. This could be a show by the "BJP" people or even the "WB Ruling party people" to defame "Trinmool" ! Anything can happen in Indian Politics. It's very easy to wear "Trinmool" badges and carry "Trinmool" flags by "Others" and do such mischieves. The WB Police, famous as "Scotland Yard" of India, could not apprehend such an attack ? It's something unbelievable. Readers must recall an incident in the recent past, when a landmine was used when WB CM was returning from a Poll-Meet. He left the venue,in a hurry, without even bidding goodbye to a Central Govt. Cabinet Minister Rambilas Paswan, and the said landmine was activated, allegedly by Maoists, a few minutes after the CM had passed that spot ! Some security people faced tghe wrath !! Hundreds of meters of "Red" wire were used for the landmine, which were detected subsequently after the incident, but our India's "Scotland Yard" could not see it, though they had undertaken all the security measures to ensure safety to the CM's visit. After the incident, some innocent school boys were arrested and they were subsequently released. There is an old saying - Everything is "Fair" in "Love","War" and ofcourse "Politics" ! Summarily, in all such cases, a thorough probe by some Central Intelligence Agency can only reveal the truth behind such political games.

In fact it is highly suspicious that vandals would wear party headgear while committing vandalism!

I personally am hearing about WB police being Scotland Yard for the first time, I thought that sobriquet belonged to the Mumbai Police, especially after Inspector Zende re-captured Charles Sobhraj in Goa, after he had escaped from Tihar jail.

Is facing the tenure of worst leaders of the century. It is really difficult for the people to choose the least bad among all.

In Bengal, who is worse? Communists or Mamta?
In UP, who is worse? Mulayam or Maya or Congress Morons?
In Bihar, who is worse? Lalu or Paswan or Nitish?

Firstly, I find this entire article a very ordinary political stunt. The article mentions that a New York Based (I find no reason, what is so special to mention about were some one is based, because basically he was at the meeting venue in West Bengal. Did you mentioned about the leader Mr. Ahluwalia as Mr. Ahluwalia based in Delhi, you didn't, it shows our poor complex for some one having any association with western country to be mentioned in with any pretext).. Ok, now coming to this great martyr's story, what is so excitement in mentioning that Trinmool's mob attacking rediff someoen someone... I can guarantee the person writing this article is either CPI(M) sympathiser or supporter, else I do not understand that every one living in West Bengal knows that CPI(M) always do things like this, more so in front of our "JAGROOK MEDIA", calling their cadre men to do gimmicks like this to create bad name for opposition parties. 10 out of 10 times, in incident like this, you will find CPI(M) cadres wearing headgears, carrying flags and shouting pro-opposition and anti-CPI(M) party slogans and creating hoodlum, goondagardi and running away and then their is our "CORRUPT MEDIA" (including this rediff team, mind you all of the team, from newsmakers to news posters, editors etc) ready with action like world has fallen down because of UNCULTURED OPPOSITION PARTY and the so called MAD LEADER MAMTA BANERJEE..

Listen readers, I am not any Bengal leaders fan, but I must admit to end GOONDGARDI of CPI(M), we hardly have any MARD in West Bengal. If their is some one who dares to challenge this GOONDA's it is MAMTA (what a shame that in west bengal we have no MARD but one Ladyfighting this scoundrels. Still the so called "INTELLIGENT MEDIA" will keep on finding every fault in MAMTA but great sympathy on CPI(M) and Congress party. This is called CORRUPTION. I am sure money is being spend by political parties to garner media stories and REDIFF BEING A POOR SITE, I AM NOT SURPRISED THAT THEY WERE READY TO PLAY THIS STORY EVEN IN FEW DOLLARS (US DOLLARS)..

A very apt observation. Gooddagardi of the ruling party in WB since late seventies, is well known. Recently, there is a striong anti-CPM wind blowing in the state and CPM partmen are devising new strategies to counter this. One of those is maligning the opposition by doing such studip acts carrying opposition flags.
This particular incident may or may not be such but reporting this should carry at least 3 to 5 reports of CPM atrocities.
