People of WB believe in statusquoism. They dont want change and hence they get what they deserve. Mamata has done only what left had been doing for more than three decades in WB. So why blame her. People need to change. A state is not an independent entity. It comprises of people and with Bengali population mindset, it is very difficult to get any progress. Bengalis are great speakers, less doers. Herd and mass mentality of Bengalis should first change, if they need prosperity in the State. Opposing anything for the same of opposition, does not make sense. Bengalis should start thinking rationally and pragmatically. K. Parameswaran, Rourkela

braithwaite, bengal chemicals, TCG group, all ruined by the unions or the govt directly, and now they cry for fowl play...Mamta's action might not be good, but CPIM should introspect, who taught this dirty politics in Bengal

Hello Rajunov Singh!
A bunch of communists are not representative of the mindset of the people of Bengal!
Communists seized power in Bengal by brainwashing the lower strata of society. And their stranglehold continues through their large cadre base and subtle terrorism.
Bengali intelligentsia never supported such low level and crass culture brought into Bengal by communists.
Who are you to stereotype people of Bengal?
What is the size of your brain? It doesn't seem to be much more than the Nano's tire tube cap.
Your anti Bengal tirade shows that Indians (if you are one) are hell bent on dividing and screwing their own nation on the lines of states and languages.

hey..stupid birdbrain singh....nano was ousted because the lands were highly cultivable and farmers deserved those lands...we've got and we'll have industries elsewhere...whether its communists or trinamul or some other party we'll always be superior species u moron..go drench urself in some beer or something..criticize fellow indians and lick feet of white people..get lost.
Actually its bcos of the wrong approach and procedures of CPM that finally culminated in the exit of Nano from Bengal. You cannot force anything on anybody, you cannot snatch land for the sake of industry however big it may be.

What Lakhan Shet did in Nandigram is is unforgivable. He should be thrown out of CPM or else they should suffer.
Also we need to think about the reason for what Mamta is doing the politic of "No".Simply if the steps that are being taken for WB development is succeded it will be proved that she is not required. That is why she is not letting things to get done to keep her existance. But CPM's ruthless attitude benfitted her in a greate deal. Her battel for survival become fruitful.
WestBengal suffered a huge economic blow. Cause it is not only "Nano" project. With new zeal Mamta is now opposing every other project and determined to stop Budhadeb from becoming a hero.
"Nijer naak kete porer jatra bhongo"....but CPM's chutiality realy helped her in this.

Absolutely right. My cousin is a lawyer in West Bengal and she is testimony to the unethical and unfair method adopted by Left Front to acquire lands from the poor. The cadres threat the poor farmers to sign the papers and in the name of compensation they get a meagre amount. In many cases farmers were initially scared to raise their voice. But when they got the support from Mamata Banerjee, they retaliated. Of course Mamata had her political agenda on her top priority. But one can't deny that Singur was a classic case of people's revolt against the wrong and unfair policy of the Government. Had the LF Government been absolutely transparent in the whole deal and allowed the land owners to negotiate with the Tata's directly, today NANO would've been out of Singur only. Today so many deals are being done in Chattisgarh where the Government has fixed the guidelines and the farmers are selling their lands directly to the industrial house after negotiating personally.

bingo. IF CPM were a little transparent or shall i say if they would have handled it better things woukd have been absolutely different. Point is, why were they not? definitely bcos they had agreed with Tata for some things which nobody would have accepted. I think they lack the capability of doing a clean and easy development plan. Yes you have to pass some benefits to the industries but at what cost is the question. In chennai you have so many industries like hyundai, nokia, saint-gobain, motorola one after another but have you ever heard any fuss here. No. that's bcos the basic human needs and necessities were not compromised. They were not muscled out rather a WIn-Win alternative was reached. It starts right from the planning stage. when the deal was struck CPM thought they can do anything to the people which no one can undo. But they couldn't. They never can. And then it became an "ego" issue. Since they have already bagged the contract by telling that they will do all these without any difficulty they lost their face in front of TATA when they failed. This made them more aggressive and the grave got deeper. Poor Rulers. Unfortunate people of Bengal.
Bose, why did your Left party support UPA in the first place? After this election, if you see that NDA will come to power, then Karat and his chamchas will have no hesitation in supporting UPA. Congress and Left are the two faces of the same coin
