When I pay Tax Y cant I can Vote!!!
by kedar eshwar on Apr 17, 2009 12:19 AM

I pay IT Returns, I have a Voter ID card, my company gave me a holiday to vote, and i could NOT VOTE because the Municipal Corporation did not include my name in the voter list. I was 22years in 2003 when i voted the first time and now I wonder If the EC thought i am dead, this is the same case with 3 of my friends who work in HiTech City. I think they are only looking for the votes of ppl who are looking forward for rice at 3rs a kilo. In my pooling station alone 300ppl were sent back because their names were missing in the list. And This is the case at one of the posh localities in hyderabad, Jublihills, Imagine other areas. What a shame!!!!!

Obnoxious wild weeds...
by Fact Speaker on Apr 17, 2009 12:17 AM  | Hide replies

The Government of India provides an airfare subsidy to about 100,000 pilgrims selected by the Haj Committee of India who go for Haj annually. Pilgrims pay only Rs 12,000 for their air travel. This figure has remained unchanged for at least a decade or more.

According to official figures, this subsidy was Rs 280 crores in 2006, or about Rs 28,000 per pilgrim. Today, with rising fuel prices, this figure would have gone up to Rs 350-400 crores.

There is a separate Haj cell in the ministry of external affairs. The Haj Committee of India has its own premises in Mumbai. Similarly the State Haj Committees have their own premises in various other Indian cities. These facilities have been built on land provided by the state governments.

For Haj 2007, a contingent of 115 doctors (including 63 specialists with post-graduate degrees) and 141 nurses and other para-medical staff, 3 coordinators, 46 assistant Haj officers, 165 Haj assistants and 186 Khadimul Hujjaj were sent from India on short-term deputation to Saudi Arabia.

Perhaps our self-righteous and petty Kashmiri politicians in India's only Muslim-majority state should reflect over these facts and tell us whether they think it is at least their moral if not political obligation to be more caring and sensitive to Hindu pilgrims visiting Amarnath. If we can do so much for Indians going on a pilgrimage abroad, should we not be able to do as much if not better for pilgrims at home?

The "sickularists" have no concern for the Kashmiri Pandits. They are busy appeasing the "minorities" and even our Hon. PM had said: "Minorities have the first right over the resources of our Country" as if "majoirty" are step-children!

Islamabad, April 16 (IANS) Pakistan's Sikh community has been forced to pay Rs.20 million as 'jizia' (tax) to the Taliban so as to return to their homes and resume business, a newspaper said Thursday.

The minority Sikh community Wednesday met the Taliban demand in return for 'protection' in Orakzai Agency in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas, the Daily Times reported.

The Taliban then released Sikh leader Sardar Saiwang Singh and vacated the community's houses. The militia announced that the Sikhs were now free to live anywhere in the area.

'They also announced protection for the Sikh community, saying no one would harm them after they paid jizia. Sikhs who had left the agency would now return to their houses and resume business,' an official said.

We the people take this right as a joke
by mammen antony on Apr 17, 2009 12:03 AM

The pity of this nation is that 99% people are ever ready to criticise politicians, their policies and any Govt.Sponsored programmes. But when it comes to exercise their franchise, half of the eligible voters just sit at home cool their heels.Only remedy for this paradox is to make the right a mandatory obligation. The electoral officer should issue a certificate just after the voter exercised his right and that certificate should be the basis for admission to educational instituitions, job applicationsof Pvt & Public, increments, promotions, ration supplies throughPDS,concessions, pensions, salaries, filing nominations etc.Yes it really hurts to see the measly, paltry percentage of voter turn out even in highly educated state like Kerala. It is hightime we decide we want this nation to be a Democratic or let us install a system that red brigades in China does.Single party, no elections,no voice, no parliament,no upper house.I mean this is rediculous.

7 innocent questions from Congress and reasons to vote for BJP..
by Fact Speaker on Apr 16, 2009 11:56 PM  | Hide replies

1.      Why was our great president Dr. Abdul Kalam NOT given a second term and replaced with 'someone'? 2. Why was Vajpayee's dream 'National Highway' project delayed and Kalam's visionary idea of 'Interlinking of Rivers' scrapped? 3. Why did you allow Mr. Arjun Singh to play with the autonomy of IITs? Don't you think that 50% of faculty reservation would ruin these esteemed institutions. Don't you think it was a crime to throw Dr. Venugopal out of AIIMS? You can afford to have your bypass done by Doctors of private institutes, where would a common man would go…to Dr. Ramdoss? 4. Why did you allow Indian economy to topple? Disinvestment ministry was disbanded. Money was wasted in socialist, populist, corrupt schemes and India's fiscal deficit is close to historical levels. Rating Agency may soon give India a junk rating. Are your policies or in fact lack of it (along with the global crisis) not responsible for that? 5. Why was one of your ministers (Shibu Soren) absconding from law on the charge of murder and you didn’t have the courage and morality to immediately remove him from your government? 6. Why has Afzal Guru still NOT been hanged despite the Supreme Court asking so? Why Tytler has been given clean chit just before elections?? 7. Why did you align with brokers (or crude jokers) of politics and allegedly bribed MPs to save your government? Compare it with your predecessor who lost the confidence motion by one vote but won confidence of nation by not giving up the ethics.
