the amazing people of India
by shanti on Apr 16, 2009 11:40 PM  | Hide replies

Gone through most of the comments in this discussion, and shockingly I find some people talking utter nonsense here.. What does religion have to do with this discussion, how come lewd comments on politicians are relevant here? Some does not even bother to check their words.... If this represents the current Indians, I can only pray to God to take care of this country.
(Funnily enough some idiots will ask me which God I pray, some will say in bitter words to stop me being a moral teacher.) I don't want to be so, my fellow friends, if you really want to change India, start with yourself. First learn to behave, then comment on anything, and please don't forget, the discussion forum here reflects the mindset of the Indians to the world.
Do read all the comments in a very neutral way and judge for yourself, am I wrong?
(Some comments are really good and thought provoking, my comments does not include them, unfortunately, most of the comments are utter nonsense and nothing the personal and political attacks. Can't people express their views in a better way instead of using abusive and dirty language? Can we make our politicians behave well if we behave in this manner? Sorry, I am really very disappointed.. May God bless all of us with kindness and manners.)

"Vidya dadati vinayam"-our forefathers said this.... not any other nations...

shanti, have some "shanti" after reading this news:

Thu, Apr 16 01:04 PM

Islamabad, April 16 (IANS) Pakistan's Sikh community has been forced to pay Rs.20 million as 'jizia' (tax) to the Taliban so as to return to their homes and resume business, a newspaper said Thursday.

The minority Sikh community Wednesday met the Taliban demand in return for 'protection' in Orakzai Agency in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas, the Daily Times reported.

The Taliban then released Sikh leader Sardar Saiwang Singh and vacated the community's houses. The militia announced that the Sikhs were now free to live anywhere in the area.

'They also announced protection for the Sikh community, saying no one would harm them after they paid jizia. Sikhs who had left the agency would now return to their houses and resume business,' an official said.

What happens to rediff God knows. Suddenly so many idiots are thronging the message board with useless and meaningless comments and posting. Not a single intelligent message or analysis can be seen.
There is an all round decay in rediff message board. God save rediff and its readers.

Great co-incidence!!
by JGN on Apr 16, 2009 11:27 PM  | Hide replies

What is black empowerment when it seems to benefit not the vast majority but an elite that tends to be recycled? - Desmond Tutu ........the same applies to India. Where is the "dalit" empowerment when it benefits only a few already rich "dalits" only? Ms. Mayawati and other leaders are just befooling the poor dalits.

so, do you have a better and practical solution to this problem?

the truth is that reservation has helped a lot of dalits get educated and get good paying jobs ... now those dalits should step out of the way and let others benefit, but they wont

reservation should be economic lifestyle based rather than caste, creed or religion...I know poor intelligent bhramins whi had to compromise on their ambitions bcoz of reservations...iam not pointing one community or caste here but it should be more financial driven than on religion and caste

Reservations-based-on-economic-status seems to be more logical and idealistic but it’s like using an ointment to cure cancer. You are healing the wound, but the wound is just a symptom of far deeper problem inside the body. That deeper problem in our case is caste. How can one ignore that discrimination which was carried out for centuries is the root cause, and that this discrimination was based on caste?

Reservation is not the only solution. Let the Govt provide free education to all atleast till the level of graduation and also prvide specail "Tuitions" for the dalits so that they can compete with any one.

US has been one of the most, if not the most, innovative countries in the world. the govt. policies change

for example, he is already allowing cubans to go visit cuba and send unlimited remitances ... soon, he will open tourism to cuba.

so, the 50 year old policies since the bay-of-p1gs and missile crisis are finally coming to an end
