Some of the very important points made by him ( slaps on the face of "Secularist" politicians ) -
1. Why should we ( Muslims ) ask for backward status, or the most backward label?
Muslims were at one time the ruler - how can now they be backward ?
2. It is part of Islam to be loyal and honest to the nation. 3. No Indian Muslim has betrayed the country at any time. Muslims are happier in India than in our neighbouring. 4. Ayodhya - if it is left to the people, I think they can solve it. Hindus and Muslims should sit together and come to a decision. 5.
Muslims constitute about 25-30% of India population, has all the rights and more than those of Hindus. High poverty rate in muslims can be clearly attributed big families with large number of children. Many times parents cannot meet their basic needs of food, housing, education which itself is a vicious cycle throwing them into poverty. People must realize that government is doing same or more to this community. A pratical thought will help realize that progress is in thier hands. There is no need to provide further reservations and rob many eligible general people of their bread and butter.
His statements are very true. Seeking backward status or reservation is not going to help the community. Millions of muslims can not afford to live and improve their life based upon reservations or govt subsidies. It is critically important that muslim leaders help to improve educational status of muslims. This will help the community as well as the country.
Mr. Abdul Ali had hit the head of the nail in this article. It's a historical fact that none of the communities, enjoying special facilities, could advance an inch forward. Take example of dalits. Since independence, they have been enjoying reservation facilities. Maybe a handful of individuals of the class, who were advanced beforehand among the class, have gained, but the community as a whole is remained at the same stage as it was in 1950. Seeking special favours or demanding reservation has only political significance and nothing more than that. Muslims in India have been used by the vile politicians as only vote bank. Before the time of election, they are promised Heaven, and as soon as the vote is over, their existence is forgotten by opportunist politicians. So I agree with the author that Muslims should not demand the bacward community status. They should thrive for educational reforms, social justice to their women etc. progressive steps. These steps will ultimately elevate them.
With the second largest muslim population in the world we can definetly justify the statement. But the key issue is the brotherhood between Hindus & Muslims and the development of India through education which the Prince has tried to put forward. If every Indian understands this message then we can become a strong and a developed nation
It is heartening to know that there are people in this country, who think like the Nawab of Arcot. Honestly I am tired of this Hindu, Muslim, Christian thing. Why can't we all just be Indians and keep our religions with in the four walls of our houses? But, the unfortunate thing is the vote bank politics practiced by our politicians. And much more unfortunate is the media. Politicians divide us for politics. The media seems to driving the wedges. There are articles/programmes like "Elections and Muslims". And another magazine runs an article on Elction polls and with firgures is a small caption "What Muslims say?" What are muslims - a separate entity? Aren't they citizens of this country like Hindus, Christians etc.? No wonder the entire community feels isolated. Atleast the media can try and treat all of us as Humans and Indians.
People like the Nawab of Arcot are what we in India need more and more of. Thanks for a very balanced and matter-of-fact article. May his tribe increase. As he says we should be better - hindus, muslims and christians in India.
