whos stopping any dalit from performing well and being selected ? instead of reservations why dont the likes of athavale etc create NGO or goverment support for schorlaships for talented dalit players ?
As the writer himself mentioned black form 80% of population in S.A (and only 2 players reserved) while sc/st form 25% in india. Also S.A has only recetnly emerged out of apartheid while we have reservations being given at so many levels for 70 years....INfact one would think that after atleast 3-4 generations of reservation there would be a huge pool of sc/st who are well off . IN cities caste doesnt matter ony economic status does in day to day activities . The only place it finds mentions is during marraige decisions.
Would also like to point out that after 3-4 generaions f reservation there would be millions of sc/st who have had access to status, education and economic prosperity PUTTING THEM AT PAR with any general candidate.... But it is there people of creamy layer and not the really deprived sc/st who will get bebnfit of reservation...is that fair ??? both to general cateory ppl and to their own more deprived dalit bothers/sister .
It is time now to slowly reduce reservation by 1 % every year and t limit it to fa,ilies who have not used it in previous generaton. It would still take 50 years to be removed totally thus allowing beneft to still continue at same time becoming merit oriented over t

This topic of Brahmin domination in cricket was dealt in detail by Outlook magazine a few years ago. I personally feel that special coaching schools, facilities, scholarship can be provided to dalits and other weaker sections including muslims. But to denigrate the likes of Gavaskar, Sachin, Dravid, Sourav, Lakshman etc is sheer nonsense and this is another form of racism. These are some of the all time greats Indian circket has produced and these people are of impeccable character and devoid of any controversy. Each one of them would have walked in to any national team perhaps at any point of time.
