I agree with Bisht. Players need to execute a plan made by coach rather than dictating terms.
If Kohli and company can't understand this they need to be dropped from the squad. We do not have lack of good talent in india.

Captain Vs Coach
by Manohar Rao on Jul 03, 2017 08:49 PM

In modern day cricket coach is not needed at all. All the players who are in the eleven are there because of their abilities and talents and of-coarse some good luck and connections too. If in the international levels they required training then they are not fit to be in the team. Practice is different training is different. A coach gives training and for practice no coach is required.
Let us look from another angle, Kumble is no doubt a great bowler but what are his credentials regarding batting? What kind of inputs he can give to Kohli, who is considered as one of the greatest batsman in the modern day cricket? It is like a car mechanic giving instructions to a civil engineer to construct a building.
In my opinion Captain should be the ultimate authority both on and off the field. Coach/analyst/strategist/manager/critic or whatever you say should be a resource to the captain who can provide timely inputs to the captain, who can help captain in formulating plans, help the captain and the other players during practice and so on. A helper can not be a leader and hence the Captain should have the final say and must be in total control of his team.

Cficket Head Coach

Shastri, an ex-player is everywhere. He comments live during the game, he is called by TV channels for discussions, he is on the field too with the microphone, he is a columnist in newspapers and also part of BCCI, in addition, he was the team manager too! Should he grab everything in cricket and go on forever?
Many youngsters have lost their place in the team due to severe and open criticism by Shastri.
Why not rest Shastri and opt for a different coach?
Also, what is the guarantee Kohli and Shastri will really get along well for the next three long years?

Shastri was average bowler and batsman and the lousiest fielder of Indian cricket team. While fielding at long on and cover, the players were taking runs even when the ball was in his hand and by the time he throw ball to the wicketkeeper the players were completing their run. When in today's modern cricket fitness and excellent fielding play very important role, will this man desirable as a coach ?

Captain or Coach in Cricket - Supremacy
by srinivas r on Jul 03, 2017 08:01 PM  | Hide replies

In Cricket the Captain's role should be supreme as he conducts the operations on the cricket field. The Players look upto him as leader both on and off the field.
The Coach's role is that of a planner and to iron out the deficiencies in technique that the player himself may not be aware of and he is in the best position to do so being a third person who can see things that the player/s themselves cannot . The Coach is basically part of the support staff and his position in cricket is different from that of Football/hockey as the sports are different.

I see the merits of what you write Sir. But honestly in 20:20 cricket, the coach is already doing everything from the dugout.
Very soon, ODI will follow suit!

coach vs captain
by purnanandam yedavally on Jul 03, 2017 06:31 PM

Coach is not a position to be approved by the players or captain.Captain should be second to the coach. There is never a coach vs captain contest. Coach is supreme and captain is next- captain is the defacto coach on the field.
Coach is the brains and captain is the brawn.
But if coach has to be approved by the captain, then as Gavaskar said- a popularity poll should be taken as to who should be the coach and duly appointed. If the team then does not perform, the whole team should be dismissed and a new team as to the likes of the coach should be appointed.

Mr Bisht, when Ravi shastri took over India was in a much bad state than when MR kumble took over. Under Shastri, the team did exceptionally well but he was unseated by connivance of Mr GAnguly. That odes not mean Kumble is not a good coach. But Shastri is much better in man management. I am sure Kohli never relaxed under shastri and results are there to proove.
