Brearley was a great captain and also a lover of India and its culture. In our culture when a wise man is saying something which may not be music to our ears it is important to listen.Unnecessary jingoism on our part and crass commercialism by BCCI and certain senior cricketers hurts India in the purest form of the game.
Brearly is absolutely right. But the issue is that we did not have a better wicketkeeper batsman at that time. Also, his captaincy lacks vision and strategic skills which are necessary for planning the two innings of a test match. His field setting and bowling changes are based on his own instincts which can click and help in the shorter version, but in the 5 day format the lacking gets exposed.

Since There no challenger to Modi,He may continue as Skipper..But He must be careful about Murali Vijay....ask the poor Dinesh Karthik for more details...

Same for Margret Thatcher,If she she was in India, she must have never even elected as an Panchyat Memebr...That is the standard of Indians and Indian voters

exactly dear friend. if u give any undue importance to any people they, start talking like this. and who has asked his opinion? one thing which, is available on free of cost in d world is ADVICE. people use to wait for an opportunity but when, don't get any chance then, start murmuring like the way here also people have been doing. I simply don't understand if at all there r so many talents available in our country then why do we invite foreign expats? u ask anything to our these great intellectuals those who have been giving their free of cost advice in rediff zarabol here, they do have all experts knowledge & can give an advice how to handle d issue. but still confused why can’t they bring any changes for a better India then? Bcoz India is full of advisors only. and these advisors only know how to bark from d backgrounds but don't have d caliber to execute.
We have seen it over the years that any team - be it Australia, England, South Africa or India- do extremely well in their home conditions but fail abroad- what is the big deal. See the Australians- they fumbled badly against India last year but beat England in Australia easily. Brearly should reserve his comments till the time England comes to India and say after that

great my dear friend. all our great PUNDITs over here, should go through ur comments/message & should be ashamed of their useless opinions & unwanted advices.
Who is MIKE BREARLY to comment on our boys. The game is that ball moves a lot in England. Let BREARLY COME & BEAT DHONI & CO in India. Young players are no adapt to swinging ball. To play well in England you have to play in their county matches like Farokh Engineer. PLAYERS SHOULD MEET HIM OFTEN.

Let's not get too patriotic over the game.. Cricket in dusty Indian conditions is a disgrace to the game. The bat dominates, unless when there are cracks on the pitch.

Correct, this Mike who the englishmen say as the great player has not scored a century also. Dhoni is ages ahead of him.

i'm proud of all my friends in this sequence& for their wise comments & understanding too. other PUNDITS should also learn from my friends. and their comments speak of their in depth on d game. shame on them.
Frankly players like Binny would have done much better under any other Captain who displayed a little iota of confidence and faith! Why let some one into the team if you don't display any support to the player on field. Sad!
Get back Sehwag/Gambhir/Yuvraj into the Team......its not chances what they need first you need to respect for what they have done then give them confidence..............giving chances like dhoni and playing politics from behind will not help
If you treat them with respect may be Harbajan might also get back to form

that's how you destroy the Indian cricket further. All three were greats but way beyond now..
I do agree with you on your thoughts about Dhoni. He is incompetent and he has to go..

What a great idea sirji. Let us also bring back Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Roger Binny, Sandeep Patil and give the captaincy to late Pataudi. We will then surely beat the English cricket team in England.

I have been observing your posts and it is clear that your knowledge of cricket is zilch, let alone your reading comprehension. Yuvraj has never been test material. Gambhir was out of form even when selected for two test matches, looked out of sorts.
As far as treating with respect, they should also learn not to create unnecessary politics in the team, for which they were ousted at first place

u r absolutely right my friend. our PUNDITs need to know the things before they open up their mouth. thanx dear friend.
i think due ti IPL money the players has not having interest to play anywere because they are getting money in IPL means why they play for india all are in money machines players once the target reaches over out for 0 or single digit because IPL is there for them & ever because money is everything for them not country what you say guys
Re: ban IPL first before telling dhoni to remove
by Girish K on Aug 21, 2014 09:24 AM
Money or no money, sportmen need off-season. IPL robbed them, and our abroad record has been abysmal.
