Kohli has scored only in ODIs and that too on flat lifeless pitches. Vijay is taken for tests and he has better record (4 centuries in 12 tests) than Dhawan, Gambhir or any opener's record. Pujara failed once in SAfrica, but should be better now.

What do you mean by better record than Gambhir or any operer? Vijay has an overall avg. of 38.2 and Gambhir has 44.2 with mush more centuries and fifties showing who is better. As the test will be abroad, in SA, in fast and bouncy pitches, now Vijay has an avg. of 12.5 in fast and bouncy pitches abroad in 4 tests with no fifty at least and Gambhir has an avg. of 40.3 in 12 tests in fast and bouncy pitches abroad with 5 fifty and 2 centuries.

One way I am happy that Zaheer is back.......but then again, it tilts toward unhappiness as Gautham Gambhir is not selected after an exemplary performance in the Ranji Trophy.

I will pray that India lose the test series and ODI's agains South Africa in South Africa. That will prove how much necessity is Gautham Gambhir in the squad. He is important and age is still on his side.

exactly. Gambhir is needed in both the formats. we are definitely one good batsmen short and also on what basis is this rayudu kept in the team. Just one 50 against zimbabwe. Raina and yuvraj and jadeja are going to dance to the tunes of steyn. In that case we have only 4 batsmen who are in form. If the opening pair fails the batting would be exposed just like yesterdays one-dayer against WI. Thats where gambhir comes and gives solidarity to the team.
But, as I understand this is clear cut politics on part of dhoni cause of his unliking for both sehwag and gambhir who have spoken against Dhoni's strategy of taking the match to the last over when u could have finished it earlier in Aus. After that both of them have been shown the door.
Dhoni is cashing on his success now by playing politics and keeping all his chamchas and players who can do his wah-wah.
For gods sake what is that tall lady Ishant doing once again is beyond belief?
My verdict, our team would be exposed hopelessly in batting first as well as chasing. Even pakistan which has lost to SA very badly have a balanced side at the moment. Dont expect too much from Yuv, Raina and jadeja. They would be just filling the gap and nothing else. I think its Raina's turn to be shown the door for a long time now.

Gambhir should have been picked for ODIs in India. Tests - he has no technique. But overriding factor is he doesn't get along well with Dhoni and fights with Kohli.

To include Gambhir, you"ll pray for India's defeat. Good logic. It clearly shows where your mind lies. Not for the country but for an individual.

by better thanyourx on Nov 25, 2013 05:07 PM

He deserves he call for he brings to the table what Indian bowling lacks at the moment. He may have lost quite a bit of pace but hasn't lost the guile and the cunningness. In Tests if you keep bowling at say 140kmph and the batters leave most of your deliveries, the bowler is not going to have much success even after a day's hard work. That's where Zak's experience and skill comes onto play. How to make the batsman play and entice him to make mistake is something which comes to a bowler from experience. And we all know Zak is a skilful operator with the old ball. The new crop of Indian bowlers would have someone for guidance when things don't work according to plan.

Rohit,
Shikhar Dhawan,
Cheteshwar Pujara,
Virat Kohli,
MS Dhoni,
Rayudu
Ashwin,
Bhuvaneswar Kumar,
Umesh Yadav,
Mohammed Shami,
Zaheer Khan,

We may still miss the variety of Amit mishra. Legspinners are the better bet in a test match and especially a wrist spinner like Amit could have been atleast selected in the 15.

Happy to know that Rayadu found to be the worthy replacement for Tendulkar. Having shown the talent in the early stages of his career , was also known as the next Tendulkar, But unfortunately could not get enough opportunity and did get some when his form dipped. Now that he is selected, he can show his revoke his potential and shine in the world of cricket.

Thanks to the intimidating and formidable indian middle order of 2000s- Dravid, Tendulkar, Laxman, Ganguly...two of the talented domestic talents never got a change to shine at the internation stage - Wasim Jaffer and Subraminium Badrinath. Both are veterans to their respectvie Ranji teams - Mumbai and Tamil Nadu and have as avg of 60-65 with many huge scores.
It is just that they belonged to the top stage at the wrong phase. Had they been playing 10 years earlier or 10 years later, they might have played for India on a more regular basis.

Jaffer got many chances - 40 tests - that is not a small number. And he didn't fare well. Badri is still fit and fields great- could replace Raina in ODIs.

Now Laxman, Dravid and SRT are also not there.Let us see how team Chennai performs in Tests. Expect a Lungi Dance of our batsman in the fast pitches.

Vajji was highest wicket taker(17) in last SA tour. Also see records of Dada in SA,Aus and England.I am not comparing legend Dada with anyone bcoz he is past now. First get some knowledge then argue.

Wonder what has harbhajan done of late to warrant a recall when you have so many spinners better than him.

Ghambir's arrogance is his downfall and is clearly paying the price for having a spat with dhoni. And did you mention shewag ...his time is over period.
