ICC No.1 Test ranking (2009)

I think with no quality seam option , and become number 1 for period of 1 year , proves true leadership quality on field placing . , with limited resources ,

Not one year, about 2 years, India lost the number 1 spot in August 2011.

Sorry Sudhakar : In the Qr Final against Australia (which made 260) India was at one point 187 for 5 having just lost Dhoni. Lee took Dhoni's wicket. Instead of pursuing with Lee against the new batsman Raina Ponting switched to Krejza, Hussey and Watson, Obviously in an attempt to preserve Lee for the death overs. But that proved a flawed move as India easily coasted to 261 without losing any further wicket and Lee came on at the end and in the match he couldn't complete his quota of 10 overs having finished only 8.4 or so. Had Lee continued after Dhoni's fall the story would have been different as India still needed 70 runs and was under pressure. That was the turning point in the World Cup 2011 which otherwise would have gone to Australia AGAIN for the fourth time. India would have exited then and Australia would have had to meet Sri Lanka or Pakistan then and that would have been easy ride for Aussies. So Ponting gifted the world cup to India literally while at the sametime losing his career FROM THAT MOMENT on. That was actually the beginning of Ponting's end to a GLORIOUS & ILLUSTRIOUS career. Very sad, but that's the way games go.

What a foolish comment .

What difference Lee would have made if he continued to bowl ?
Do u think Raina , Yuvraj
Ashwin cannot play Lee ?
India was sure to win anyway , as 260 was not a big target .
If Brett Lee continued to bowl we would have won much eaiser & sooner.

Had Donald not ran in the semifinal match against Australia, Lance Klusner would have stopped Ponting Career before it could even start.

I keep hearing this 8-0 loss theory
by Desi on Mar 28, 2013 12:27 PM  | Hide replies

When your tops batsmen namely Dravid, Laxman, Sehwag, Gambhir, Sachin are either retired or not good enough to play for india, then losing 8-0 is not too unexpected. But as a captain leading from front by making 200 in opening game and get thing young team pumped and motivated to make a 4-0 turnaround in such a short time is unheard off. Many teams will take years to rebuild.

Give this guy a little credit. India cricket fans have not tasted so many success as they did in his 5-6 year stint. Hard to understand why forum is so jealous.

Though I have selected 2011 world cup, i believe his best is yet to come. In the next two years or so, we will have settled India Lineup across all formats and this is going to be the peak for team India in this decade.

2 months before, everybody wants Dhoni to go out of test cricket. Now everybody praises him. India will never learn. Wait for SAF tour, then decide. If india wins or even draw the series, then it is big achivement.
