We all talk of Ranji, Deodhar and irani trophies. But we have seen in the past that good performance in IPL can ensure an easier way in the Indian team. he should aim for the orange cap and start with entry in T20 and ODIs ; and eventually back in tests.
There is no doubt that he has done a great service for Indian cricket. Now time has come to say good bye.He is 34 .So no more chances should be given. He is not in good form nowadays. So let him enjoy family life and can become a cricket expert for Star cricket.GOOD BYE VEERU.
he was a good player this is a country of billion plus population for one why do you bother 10 sehwags will emerge nothing to panic be relaxed!every thing is good for country and cricket dont give too much importance to an individual!
Had it been any other country, the player himself would have retired from professional cricket. But sadly, it is India where once a 20 innings hundred is lauded than the remaining 19 failures. Viru has been so consistently ignoring the need to change his style of play. With technology available so much in abundant, it is only a matter of time for the rival coaches to study a batsman's game and develop a plan for his dismissal. It is so important today for a batsman to continue to evolve, despite the batsman friendly field and bowling restrictions. Sad but true, no Indian player seem to be preparing themselves for the changes ahead. They are so much relying on their natural talent, they ultimately fail after a while. 80 test matches is too long a period for viru to be underprepared. I do not thing guys like him and Zaheer will ever believe in planning for the change. So he does deserve the axe. It is the right time to prepare a youngster even if that youngster is going to fail in the next 10-20 innings. People might be tempted to pull in SRT also into retirement. But the fact is that SRT atleast tries to reinvent himself and keeps himself unquestionably committed to Indian Cricket. But sadly that is not true with few of our other established cricketers whose success has gone into their head. India would need such bold decisions this year as SRT would also walk into the sunset in a year. I guess we will not get to see SRT play test cricket after the SA tour. So time for change

Dear AShok you made valid points but to say that SRT can continue blocking chances of youngsters is unfair an incinsistant>He has scored 70 and odd in the first test and that gets him going for an other 10 tests .Ridiculous.We can play only 11 players for a country of 120 billion unless some one goes out an other person can not be accomodated. Viru has given us so much of joy with his pyro techniques good as long as it lasted. If he goes out no regrets not our respect an love for him will diminish. Selection committee has to be decisive not sentimental.Harbajan has played 100 tests and should honourably retire blocking inform Ojha is not fair.Laxman and Rahul have retired and is a natural process for new water to flow in

I agree. My honest apprehensions were about the careless attitude of the Indian players who had been given the highest responsibility to perform for India. And I am also not for SRT blocking one important slot in the playing 11. I just said that he is atleast "tryng" to overcome the loss of flexible body due to age. Sadly guys like Zak are not even trying. I wonder if our players really listen to our coaches/trainers.

I am also one of the supporters of viru. But still I am of the opinion that he should not be given one more chance immediately, particularly when he has just gone for some eye sight corrections. He should reinvent his form in domestic cricket and prove to the selectors that he indeed deserve a chance. Else, it will be cruel on our part to keep talented youngsters like Shikar and Rahane.
