Sad for Sehwag...somebody playing politics
by Ganesh V on Mar 07, 2013 04:01 PM  | Hide replies

By omitting Sehwag, Dhoni is playing politics. While Harbhajan has not done anything to prove his worth....why sehwag got different treatment. Definitely there is something wrong between Dhoni and Sehwag. Dhoni should be axed.

How can anybody drop a player whose test batting average is 50? he should atleast be given 50 chances before even talking about axing from the team.Dhoni thinks if he scores a 200 and singlehandedly wins us a match, that he can drop players of such stature. He did the same by dropping ganguly, sachin dravid during the t20 world cup that we only won.Its all politics if u ask me.

Pl look at what sehwag and Gambhir have scored in last 4 years (approx 50 tests). By your logic Tendu has to be there for another 100 tests (6 years?)

No surprises in the selection.

The selection committee did the right thing in not appointing any replacement for Sehwag.Shikhar Dhavan gets one more chance to do well.Prgyan Ojha should be given chance in place of Bhajji, but R.Ashwin is not yet dependable,he loses his grip some times during the series. The Aussies are poor facing off-spinners.Let us hope India wins the series 4-O.

With Sehwag around Shikar Dhavan will not get a chance. Has he played test match for India before? With Bhajji around looks like Ojha doesn't get to play, unfair to him. Dhoni has to choose between one off spinner and 2 left arm spinners against one left arm spinner and 2 off spinners. Only because Aus have so many left handers looks like Bhajji plays and Ojha sits out.

Thoughts from a indian cricket fan.....

I'm sure, dropping would enable Sehwag to comeback with a bang if he has that drive to perform more. Meanwhile selectors also should keep in mind that they need to select one batsmen like Chateswar and another like Sehwag to open the innings - only then the team can win test matches (of course backed by good bowling unit!). Remember Boon-Marsh, Gordon Greenidge-Desmond Haynes, Hayden-Slater, Hayden-Mark Waugh, Taylor-Mark Waugh and the list is endless......
Indian selectors never formed a team with a plan, as they always select team based on regional bias and knee jerk reactions. If they had an iota of brain they should have the following in mind:
- choose atleast 5 pitches across india and ensure they are bouncy tracks, select those venues for local Ranji, Duleep trophy etc....and train the budding youngsters.
- left hand right combination in batting
- atleast two good all rounders in case of front line bowlers falling flat
- 4 good pace bowlers (with 2 of them always in back-up in case of tours abroad)
- 3 good spinners
- atleast one good wicket keeper as back-up
- tours such as Zimbabwe, Bangladesh and matches with Scotland, Ireland should always be played with reserve players
- ensure atleast 15 test matches a year (this year England team plays a total of 20 test matches!!) also equal number of T20 & ODIs per year.
- have a cap on no. of matches the frontline indian team members appearing in IPL.
finally, selection of indian team should be transparent?
