Harsh decisions needed
by Viswanathan on Jan 04, 2013 09:15 PM  | Hide replies

Both Gavaskar and Imran are right when they IPL is totally responsible for the shoddy performances of Indian Cricketers. Neither batsmen nor the bowlers have performed consistently to bring in the desired results. On top of that the selection committees go on picking some players, who have not performed inspite of getting so many chances, continue to get selected.
If Team India has to perform well the selection committee has to pick three different teams for the three formats. We do not have ready replacements for Sehwag and Gambhir who are not performing upto the mark. In my opinion Sachin, Gambhir and Sehwag are likely to retire in a year's time. We can safely bet on Kohli and Pujara only. If the team continues to lose Dhoni also may give up test cricket. Then where are going?

Vishwanathan:

even australia, england or SA have their domestic T20 league.

but they never blame it or quote that as a reason for non-performance.....

What u r saying is our typical Indian attitude....
When something goes wrong, we r always in a hurry to find an excuse and a whipping boy....

Unfortunately for the lack of skills of Indian players, this favourite whipping boy happened to be IPL.....

why blame IPL ?????
by Mahendra on Jan 04, 2013 09:01 PM  | Hide replies

firstly, do not mix IPL with any other form of cricket....

IPL is just an entertainment, which has survived owing to the support of the fans.

Any good cricketer worth his salt will never ever blame one format of the game, for poor performance in the other...

These r professional players (atleast that's what they r made out to be) and hence they should be in a position to adapt to any situations.

I feel, the basic problem with India is lack of talent for this game.....

We may have some players who might have amassed some meaningless records, but when it comes to f1ght1ng as a team under difficult conditions we r nowhere, bcoz of the paucity of good players...

The problem is not IPL, but the greedy unprofessional players who only wants money, to whom India comes second to IPL. There are two solutions: either scarp IPL or increase players' fee in Indian team compatible to IPL.

Syz:
The problem is neither greed nor less money in ODI's and tests..

The main problem is our domestic cricket is pathetic and can't produce good quality players..
Unless and until the root problem is addressed, India can hardly win any games against good opposition....

Of late the best performances we have seen are from the players that were unheard of, B.Kumar, Pujara etc. The stars are consistently failing.

Don't buy the argument that domestic cricket isn't good. I know its not great. Its better. Atleast you can expect them to play out of the comfort zone.

Right now the IPL stars are too comfortable and have built a lot of fluff.

Gavaskar's Observation Bogus
by Indian Tribe on Jan 04, 2013 09:00 PM

Why blame the players particularly Dhoni who is in form?

Problems with Indian cricket is gossipping, comments, write up by so called the best cricketers like Gavaskar himself who has been advocating Dhoni's ouster....

Imagine how can Virat, Gambhir, Sehwad, Raina, Jadeja, Harbhajan etc be seen as future captain materials who would bring laurels for India while their forms are in BIG question...

Stop preaching too much on present cricketing fraternity, Mr.Gavaskar...mind your business better make your living for yourself in whatever way you wish, but do not let down modern Indian cricketers who are greater than you - brought 2 world cup trophies....

Increase the Bench Strength
by Subramanian Ramani on Jan 04, 2013 08:59 PM

Unless our players are made hungry for runs, things are not going to improve. Create a good bench and necessarily rotate the players as per performance and let us not create demi Gods in Cricket whom you find difficult to handle and exclude with their consent - we have created atrocious situation for spectators

stop playing politics

it is time the players of the BCCI are reminded that they are playing for honor too and not money or power alone.
