I agree with Rahul Dravid
by Gotchi on Jan 04, 2013 10:27 PM  | Hide replies

I agree with Rahul Dravid that Indian team just does not have talent. That's why all these losses. In his prime Sachin, Rahul and Saurav would win matches. In their prime current cricketers still look very shaky. Probably IPL has done this. But whatever India just does not have talent except Dhoni and Virat (both Batting).

Our bowling is truly mediocre. Both England and Pakistan bowlers did better than our bowlers at our home ground.

Another problem is Coach. Since this current coach took over, it has been disaster after disaster. Even Akram gives tips to Pakistani cricketers. What about our great players?

Truly a pathetic state of cricket in India. India should only play IPL. For international cricket they are at the level of lowest international teams currently.

WHAT? Rahul Dravid never said it. Although I read cricket news regularly, I just g00gled it to verify your claim. ANd have no clue what you're talking about.

Dravid indirectlt pointed at IPL money and that some player may not be too serious about the national duty because of that..

IPL's contribution to Indian cricket
by Narayanan Mahalingam on Jan 04, 2013 10:14 PM  | Hide replies

When IPL started, that big mouth in the commentary (Ravi Shastri) was going gaga on the benefit that IPL is going to bring to Indian cricket. It has really impacted Indian cricket.

Every year, the IPL honours promising junior player. These promising talents have not been seen even on the T20 radar, forget Ranji cricket. So much for the worth of IPL awards.

Countries that respect test cricket are doing well and rightfully so. India is fit for flirting with Bollywood hotties in our summer tamasha called Indian Poi (Poi means false in Tamil) League. Rest of the season can be safely ignored.

One question for Gavaskar. If IPL is so bad for Indian cricket, will you stop commenting this season. No you will not. Because hypocrisy is in your blood.

Read Between Lines

Imran and Gavaskar are not stating the obvious, but they are just trying to be diplomatic.

The way Imran has put it is the closet thing you can get in writing "Unless Indian Cricket deals with IPL, unless you work out a balance between Test Cricket and IPL".

What he is saying here is quite simple. The IPL starts are ruining the ODI and Test matches. The IPL stars have completely forgotten about the competitiveness, dedication and the effort that they need to put in to play in ODIs and Tests. Why should they? If they get 3-4 times the money playing in IPL series why to work harder and make less money?

All he is saying is, let the IPL stars continue to concentrate on IPL only.

Let there be a seperate team for ODIs and tests and don't mix the players for the three formats.

Ofcourse, it isn't practical since the country don't have players to form 3 teams. It will be a big struggle to build it. Atleast it is a path in the right direction.

Right now it is going down hill. Don't expect any more committment from Gambhir, Sehwag, Zaheer, Raina, Ashwin etc. They are all spent and spoilt force.

Indian players out of form.
by AVINASH KORLEKAR on Jan 04, 2013 09:28 PM

It is a present practice among all First class cricket players that since they are in that form of cricket, they can play any match with only net practice for certain time during that match. It is obvious that every player must practice throughout the year and even paly local matches such as Kanga league in Mumbai or others elsewhere. BCCI must compell them to play these matches as a rule, whether he is centurian or not. or else he should be removed from the team.

Indian batsmen out of form.
by AVINASH KORLEKAR on Jan 04, 2013 09:22 PM  | Hide replies

It is true that IPL has spoiled the Indian cricketers and they expect the same money pattern from BCCI too. It is also true that the players are taking country on No. 2 spot.
If BCCI realy would like to improve the players the team playing for the country must have all new faces and all the players playing IPL should be Omited completely. You may lose few games in the beggining, but newcomers will try to retain their places in the team and will put all their efforts into the game ratther than money.BCCI should back them and should not bow to this lot of present players.

The problem is neither greed nor lack of interest of any player..

The main problem is our domestic cricket is pathetic and can't produce good quality players..
Unless and until the root problem is addressed, India can hardly win any games against good opposition....

Of late the best performances we have seen are from the players that were unheard of, B.Kumar, Pujara etc. The stars are consistently failing.

Don't buy the argument that domestic cricket isn't good. I know its not great. Its better. Atleast you can expect them to play out of the comfort zone.

Right now the IPL stars are too comfortable and have built a lot of fluff.

It is obvious that our players are giving more importance to IPL than putting their 100% efforts while playing for the country. We who watch the test or ODI with the national spirit are mad.our players seem to have no spirit. I know that we can not win 100 % matches but we are not even showing the fighting spirit. One Bowler or one batsman clicks and unless 4 batsmen or 3 bowlers show their form, the winning seems to be a day dream. The BCCI
should stop this IPL Tamasha and really put efforts to build a new team for world cup 2015 . We should also look for a new coach - preferably an Indian one who should be a task master and who has proven record while playing for the country. I really laugh when I see people like Saba Karim, chopra, Vinod Kambli give their expert comments on electronik media.Sunil Gavaskar is shrewed and wants to earn money and fame as TV Commentator. His expertise should be utilised by BCCI by appointing him as batting coach. Yashpal Sharma should be the fielding coach and Kapil dev or Bedi should be bowling coach. For Domestic cricket we shold have green top wickets and few practise matches shold be held in conditions or places which resemble foreign climate.
