Test of Caliber
by Ajeet Singh on Feb 17, 2013 10:46 AM

I have always believed that test matches are the test of caliber of any player. Bhuvneshwar has though taken wickets in ODIs but he succeeded only where the pitches helped the swing else he has gone wicketless, this loop hole can be hidden in ODIs because you bowl only 10 overs maximum. But in test matches where at times a bowler has to bowl about 50 overs in an innings that exposes his strength and/or weaknesses. We are yet to see how he performs in the test matches and wish him all the very best for his debut and a bright future ahead.

Good luck

There were lot of bowling hopes but after a few series the opposition figure them out and taken them to task. It is all about innovation and changes to situations.Hopefully you have a longer career.
Best Wishes!

Indians don't have the physic for fast bowling.even the occasional promising ones fade out so very quickly.

Bunch ofCrap.. What physic are you talking about? Do the genetic trace and you will not find much difference, mainly between the North Indian and Pakistanis.

Bhuv is a very good swing bowler
by Nikhil Shah on Feb 15, 2013 10:29 AM  | Hide replies

Well, he is just a bit better than Praveen Kumar. Though Praveen Kumar has a better eco rate and SR as well. Bhuv has better pace and this does not show up in the SR as compare to Praveen Kumar.

A lot of bowlers like Bhuv Kumar, Vinay and Praveen Kumar has good swing and combine it well.

Its hope is mainly on Ankit Rajdoot to has an SR of 38.4 and eco rate of 2.93 in FC cricket who has taken only taken 7 matches so far. Once he accumalates more FC matches we will now better.

Let us look at FC cricket and see who is most promising
Test fast bowler. The fast bowler with pace has been
VVR Singh with a SR of 40, the problem is his ECO rate was
about 3.82 in FC cricket, very high.

With just an SR of 38.4 Ankit has just 7 matches but had
a ECO rate of 2.93. Praveen had a high SR too but this was
because of his Swing and not pure pace.

All FC new comers have an ECO of about 2.91 - 3.1 and an
SR of about 50. Ankit Rajpoot is the most ECO-SR ratio
ave of 18.18.

FC ECO SR
Bhuv Kumar 46 2.75 56.5
Shami Ahmed 15 3.01 49.0
Siddarth Kaul 11 3.14 48.1
Ishar Pandey 18 2.91 50.0
Mohit Sharma 11 3.01 49.1
Ankit Rajpoot 7 2.93 38.4

Vikram Singh 25 3.82 40.1
Yadav Umesh 31 3.42 46.8
Ishant Sharma 73 3.21 60.7
Vinay Kumar 76 2.87 51.0
Praveen K 48 2.76 52.0

If we look at Vinay and Praveen they have an a good SR of 51 and 52 but do not have pace and bounce considered in the equation. As a result at a higher level it affects the lack of pace and bounce.

In the case of Ishant his bounce various him quiet a bit and in dharamsala Ishant was quite impressive with his bounce along with this line and length.

isnt rediff a bit late for such an article?
Looking at the headline I thought it is some new unheralded bowler... but it turned out to be Bhuvi who has already been playing for the country and everybody knows him...

My dear friend, speed is not the only weapon for a pace bowler. Swing and accuracy is more required. You must also know that Aussies never practiced against 125 kms they are used to 140 plus only therefore Bhuvaneswar has the opportunity.

What India needs....
by Sadhashiv on Feb 15, 2013 12:28 AM  | Hide replies

If India has to win test matches consistently overseas, we need bowlers like Steyn, Morkel, Philander, McGrath, Curtly Ambrose, Walsh, Akram, Waqar etc...
Bowlers like ishant, bhuvaneshwar, zaheer (always injured), praveen kumar, dinda, sreesanth look quite pedestrian when compared to these greats...

India has never produced a pace bowler who has been feared... It might be attributed to our poor physical strength, lack of exercise, stamina, food etc.
but if there is a will there is a way.... India of 21st century should not be complaining about the lack of anything especially wrt cricket which is handled
by one of the richest boards...

Unless and until India can produce fearsome pace bowlers who can break the rib cage of batsmen and have the courage to go upto him and exchange a few nasty words, we will find it tough to win tests overseas..

You should also remember that with all those pace bowlers the respective teams had lost Test series against India
