What India needs....
by Sadhashiv on Feb 15, 2013 12:28 AM  | Hide replies

If India has to win test matches consistently overseas, we need bowlers like Steyn, Morkel, Philander, McGrath, Curtly Ambrose, Walsh, Akram, Waqar etc...
Bowlers like ishant, bhuvaneshwar, zaheer (always injured), praveen kumar, dinda, sreesanth look quite pedestrian when compared to these greats...

India has never produced a pace bowler who has been feared... It might be attributed to our poor physical strength, lack of exercise, stamina, food etc.
but if there is a will there is a way.... India of 21st century should not be complaining about the lack of anything especially wrt cricket which is handled
by one of the richest boards...

Unless and until India can produce fearsome pace bowlers who can break the rib cage of batsmen and have the courage to go upto him and exchange a few nasty words, we will find it tough to win tests overseas..

You should also remember that with all those pace bowlers the respective teams had lost Test series against India

Please leave him alone.. Let him shine with his own skills. No need of over hype. Already we have seen Ajit Agarkar, Irfan Pathan,... Please don't add him on this list.

Simple logic...
by Raj Reddy on Feb 14, 2013 08:42 PM

One thing I noticed with all the guys/gals who truly perform and progress... have one thing in common... they have a fairly simple logic and don't beat themselves up too much, just like this guy.

Fitness Problem
by Dayanand Poduval on Feb 14, 2013 07:26 PM  | Hide replies

Why Always finding Fitness Problem Whenever we have a glimpse of a real fast bowlers (who can bowl over 140 kmph) hoping to lead the attack for longer period. Examples like Srinath, Munaf Patel, Umesh Yadav, Varun Aron etc.

more than pace, its accurancy and line and length counts to trouble/tempt the batsmen to commit the error. Its like beauty and brain.

Srinath did not have any fitness problems and didn't miss any matches. Unlike Zaheer, Irfan etc Srinath bowled long spells in every match consistently. Srinath had better fitness than even Sehwag who misses matches regularly esp abroad

Bowling worries
by Teena Mehta on Feb 14, 2013 07:14 PM  | Hide replies

Bhuvi is used to bowl all the Overs with the New-ball in ODI....... not tested with Old-ball by Dhoni yet....... Ishant bowls well in Patches...... doesnt bowl well consistently....
Both are Medium pacers(125-135) & not Fast-bowlers....... I've heard that bowlers need to with lot more pace to generate Reverse-swing...... What will Ind bowlers do with the Old-ball???

The ball used in India for Test matches generally does reverse swing at lower speed also. At higher pace it can be really more effective. And pace bowling is not all about mph, it needs skill.

agree touch heart, we do not have a pace bowler who can be vouched and consistent. We have more erratic bowlers who find way in to the team through back door push or regional politics or religious politics. Very rarely talent is recognised and when recognised, unable to perform.

Ishant Sharma is a Ectomorph

An ectomorph is a typical skinny guy. Ecto’s have a light build with small joints and lean muscle. Usually ectomorph’s have long thin limbs with stringy muscles. Shoulders tend to be thin with little width.
Typical traits of an ectomorph:

* Small “delicate” frame and bone structure
* Classic “hardgainer”
* Flat chest
* Small shoulders
* Thin
* Lean muscle mass
* Finds it hard to gain weight
* Fast metabolism

His parameters are different as to a stocky bowlers like Waqar Yonis or Charlie Griffen.

Ishant needs to may need to bowl a fuller length, generate pace and pounce and and eco rate of 3.2 with SR of 55.

Mediocre

This guy is a mediocre bowler who may look better due to lack of better indian bowlers. He is yet another of our gentle medium pacers. Lets be honest, no batsmen are going to loose sleep at the thought of facing him. I did be happy to be proved otherwise by his performance.

Taking wickets does not need great speed! If there is a quality bowler who can swing the ball both ways at 130 kmph and hasexcellent control will do great especially going by the fact that most batsmen of current generation do not have the right technique. Kapil was not an express bowler, but troubled every batsman in his time. Kumble never spun the ball like Murali or Warne, but still got wickets with subtle variations and accuracy. Bowling needs skill, discipline, dedication and fighting spirit.

No doubt there is skill involved. You will notice often in India we say a bowler needs line n length and skill when we don't have anyone bowling fast. Are we saying that Dale Steyn, Morkel and the breed of pacers like Wasim, Waqar did not have skill, control or precision? Let us not mask our deficiency. We can only get over a problem once we recognize and admit it. We lack pace bowlers. To be a top team consistently we need good pacers!!

It is not necessary to have real fast bowlers, but if they are available they will add to strength. Wasim, Waqar were not feared for speed alone, they swung the ball with accuracy and waqar had a lethal swinging yorker. Steyn, McGrath, Marshall etc all had not only speed but they have excellent control and swing. But they are very few like them, not every Aussie is like Lilee or McGrath.

except for Kapil in earlier days and later Srinath, no Indian bowler can be classified as pacer. One of the problems is the lack of support. Bowlers are afraid of bowling fast because of fear of injury. Indian public will not question if Sehwag fakes injuries to get out of tight matches, but when bowlers genuinely break down we chastise them and demand removal. And in Indian team bowlers are also expected to bat and that puts unnecessary pressure and distraction. That said, Bhuva has talent- hopefully it will be nourished.
