Remove deadwood first
by chatter on Feb 11, 2013 11:22 AM  | Hide replies

We need to remove Sehwag and Sachin first. They are past it. Their reflexes are no more what they were when they were the most destructive batsmen on the planet. They should recognise this. If they do not, they must be made to realise it .. by the selectors. Only then can we build the team for the future.

Dhoni, for one, will have to take more responsibility .. as a batsman, as a keeper and as a captain. The kind of support he continues to receive from the BCCI is unparallelled, whetevr may be the reasons. He has to repay it .. or quit. There are certainly better wicket keepers around in the country who can also bat a bit.

Bring in Rohit Sharma in place of Sachin. He is easily the most talented batsman we have produced since Sachin .. but seems mentally lazy. Throw him into the test arena. If he succeeds great ... else ensure he never plays for India again .. in any format. IPL will be giving him a good income anyway.

captaincy is simply hyped in india because of political mindset. In Aus/SA/Eng no one give impprtance to captaincy.
Any one out of 11 player can be captain as long as he deerve his place in team as a player & respected by team members.
dhoni is a liability. he can be made manager for his manipulative skill

Try Kohli. He is as experienced as MSD was when he was made captain. At least he shows some fire

Kohli is not yet settled. Until Eng series started his average was very much like Murli Vijay or Pujaras. He has much better ODI record.

Even Ashwin inclusion is questionable, he may be doing a bit of bat, but bowling is far below par,

Kohli should not be given a very handle to hang on, if he fails, let him come back with more practice and learn patience, improved foot work and will to bat longer in Test cricket.
Tendulkar is fast approaching his, end- so that place should be taken possibly by Raina, or Rohit* if he improves his temperament.

Fast bowling needs a new look, Sharma has proved quite a bit these days, he is just not enough, needs lot of improvement.

Satishgs, your idea is laudable but if you go by performance and start throwing people because of failure in one dept for 3 tests like Ashwin, we'd end with nothing. ON the other hand we tolerate batsmen like Sehwag, Tendu, Gambhir for years, but for bowlers our patience is shortlived. No wonder every one wants to bat in India, right from gully cricket to nationals.

Good team. But Rahane is overhyped- not yet test class , he's not even stroke player . So will try Vijay and Dhawan.

dropping of gambhir
by biswanath roy on Feb 11, 2013 10:39 AM

the dropping of gambhir is correct, but why sehwag is being retained. this fellow is 15 kgs over weight, and in the 4 tests against england was never on the field continuously.he is not fully fit, very selfish, purposely skipped the Irani trophy match, & like gambhir declares himself fit for IPL matches. should be dropped fort with,& either vijay/mukund inducted in the side.

by sriram kannan on Feb 11, 2013 09:56 AM  | Hide replies

Jaffer is a domestic player not made for international matches like other mumbaikars (recent times - young generation)..if u consider Jaffer then i think Badrinath, dhawan is far more better batsman than Jaffer at the internation standards..all these guys are getting a flat deck in domestic pitches and help from umpires with name of big team ..so we are thinking mumbai players are really talented..but that is not the case...Pls consider players from small states.. if we give 10% of chance we are giving to Mumbai, TN. KA player, these small state players will play for sure..

Hi, i am not quite sure that make sense.Domestic cricket is the platform for all the players to get into the team based on their performance. There is nothing like south ,north ,east, west in reality.but its all upto the dirty politics in our country...As a player Badrinath got enough chances to prove and he didnt come upto the expectation...Dhawan got so many chances and he didnt do anything...I wonder why they even ignored sreeshant as he is one of the best seam bowler we have mch better than who e have now...there are so many small states which has wonderful talents which is not getting any chances...

Selection
by Ramprasad Murthy on Feb 11, 2013 09:39 AM

1.I think Shami Ahmed would have better than Ashok Dinda.
2. Why Virendra Sehwag. If he were to be selected just like that then why the name in ROI Team?
3. I think Wasim Jaffer is a more accomplished batsman than Shikar Dhawan(who is more tuned to one day/t20 format).

Where is Irfan?
by vishwas sharma on Feb 11, 2013 08:11 AM  | Hide replies

Again politics by Dhoni keeps the only allrounder in India out of team. In many comments I have seen ppl advocating for Raina but for all those Raina fans Irfan is better batsman than Raina and averages more than him as batsman and has picked 100 test wickets in test cricket in only 29 tests which is best for any Indian fast bowler and how can any Indian forget this legend allrounder first over hattrick which is the only hattrick in the world cricket in test that has come in first over.

Shrikanth:agree to some extent on jaffer in place of vijay but totally disagree on raina. He is unfit to play any form of cricket now ppl are telling his average in last series just watch every inning of raina again and count the chances he was given in each innings had this much chances be given too any other player he would have scored atleast 5 hundreds but Raina failed to score a one and another interesting fact on raina he is the only batsman in odi who has not scored a century in past 5 years.

dhoni bats ahead of raina & manipulate his batting position.
Dhoni has no overseas century in any format even after playing 8 yrs.
Even agrakar/kumble scored century oversesa batting at 8 or 9.
Even ashwin will able to score century overseas but not flat track king dhoni for sure
