1. Because Pointing Retired? -- really absurd and illogical reason. Each individual is different and one shouldn't follow suit because the other did so.
2. His age is catching up : Well Brad Hogg at 41 still plays for Aussie T20 side in a format where aggression is the only required attribute. Lots of players had played till 41/42 in those days before they hung their boots. Tendulkar still remains fit and we hardly see him drop off a game due to injury/illness. Then why age come into picture?
3. His current form is disappointing - Well thats a valid point. But this should apply to all. If one says he has been failing for the last few games, then what about others. We were thrashed 0-8 overseas when everyone failed. Shall be recamp the whole team then? Dont you people think there are 'other' liabilities in the team than sachin, to be shown the door before they do to him.
4. Blocking younster - When he stormed into the team aged 16, he had to throw a senior out by talent. No one gifted their place to him, just because he was 'Sachin Tendulkar'. Same way, if an yougnster wants to make a mark, he should show the talent and outclass him. Not request him to move out. He is still one among the top6 TEST batsmen we have in our country and he has the right to play Test Cricket.

1>ponting has retired otherwise, he would have been axed - Cricket Australia has a simple philosophy - perform or perish - that is the law of life 2>age spares no one 3>the older one gets, the less shelf life one has so at an older age, if form is gone, then one's career is on the line 4>the old order changeth, yielding place to the new
forget sachin - the most surprising thing is to retain dhoni as captain - he is certainly not fit to lead the test team

No its not all about age and current form. Its about making a difference to the team while you are there. Either you play in such a way that your team wins or atleast in test cricket block the other team from winning. Can anybody give me atleast 5 instances from 2003 when Sachin has done that ?

forget 5 instances..can you give me 1 instance when Gambhir, Sehwag, Yuvaraj, Raina, Kohli, Dhone have done that?

Many times. You would not have won the world cup without Dhoni playing in the final of the World Cup 2011. Sehwag has many games where he single handedly finishes the opositions. Yuvraj is a class when he is on form. Kohli ....till recently has been the reason india won many gamesh. And nobody played for two decades like Tendulkar
He will be remembered as a great batsmen who took australia to new heights with his batting and shred captaincy. He is not afraid to tlet others know that his form has dropped and he is not to expectations of himself and the country.Salute you..ricky...Sachin needs to learn few things from you

Well said, Ricky is going when he still could have played at the top level, it is his greatness and conviction if he has decided to call it quits, he has contributed enough to carry him along in the history books as one of the greatest to have played cricket who always played for his team and was actice member in many wins that Aussies got in the last 15 years.Salute to him, A lot to learn from him many cricketers including Sachin of all, who does nt know what he is doing. He has sullied all reputation he had earned in the first decade of his career. If he says he still enjoys cricket, it is his sheer foolishness, he has lost all admiration and lobe of his millions of fans, who are pained to see struggling like this, but how long, he perhaps waiting to be dropped for good.

there are million things that he needs to learn from Sachin ..first and foremost humility. While appreciating Pointing, dont degrade Tendulkar.
Re: Re: RICKY PONTING ONE OF THE GREATEST BATSMEN
by ranjit roy on Nov 29, 2012 03:13 PM
first - it is not the aussie nature to be humble. when it matters most, ponting has always delivered (World cup hundred in a final - whereas sachin got out rather tamely in the WC 2011 final). Ponting has played many a brilliant knock as player, as captain. ponting's fielding in the short cover/short midwicket area and the number of times he has hit the stumps when it mattered as a game-changing moment is well-known.

1 person alone cant make a team succeed. Still, Sachin carried the burden of the then 'useless' indian team of early 1990s and stood like a rcok and delivered. His knock at 1992 Perth test is a class part at 19 years of age and 5'5'' height on a bouncy track facing tall fast bowlers. His innings in 1998 sharjah cup is still fresh in our minds. They way he batted sensibly in the disastrours 2000 Aus tour is praiseworthy. Once Gangnuly took over captaincy, he ensured, tendulkar focussed only on batting and then Indian team enjoyed golden run (2003 till 2007) winning overseas tours. Pointing had many match winners like Warne, Mcgrath, Waugh brothers during most of his career, while Tendulkar could only depend on Dravid and to some extend Kumble for turning the match around. When pointing walked into the team he was 6th or 7th best player in playing 11 and gradully moved up the order when one by one retied. Whereas Sachin in his 3rd year (ie 1992) became the face of Indian batting and the team needed him all the time. And yet he delivered though he failed in some key moments. Both are legends ..no doubt. But asking Sachin to learn from pointing is a bit too much to digest.

Then will keeping a name like Sunil Vaidya make anybody as hopeless & useless as you?
that he hopes to defeat sa in this test and become no. 1 test team...if what he is says is true and if they do win and become no. 1 team then it will be because of ponting's batting...
whether he will fail or succeed is not important but before retiring he will make aus no. 1 team again...even if fails or succeeds in this last test with his batting he will help aus team to become no. 1 again...
