Go play Ranji
by fun tan on Nov 05, 2012 10:10 PM  | Hide replies

Sehwag and Gambhir should go play Ranji, hit a century and cement their place in the team just like Clever Sachin is doing.

Indian openers are not technically perfect opening batsman to face new ball except on Indian slow track where they enjoy most of their hunting.

India needs at least one good inform opener who can handle new ball for at least first 25 overs.

Looks like you guys have never opened batting facing the red cricket ball. You cannot just bat for first 25 overs as an opener...the first and foremost job of an opener is to take the shine off the ball in swinging and seaming conditions, like in Australia and South Africa so that it first stops swinging, then to watch the bowlers hand and seam position to avoid good deliveries and punish the bad ones. It takes huge amount of practice on seaming tracks to play that way. Any Indian opener in that class is a difficult find.

what about dhoni's form? he has played 3 important innings vs nz in the last test series and was instrumental along with kohli in helping india win the series...

forgot dhoni's 70 plus score, 60 plus score and 48 not out in the 4th innings of 2nd test helping india win 2-0 against nz and showing that we can successfully chase in 4th innings and inspite of some early wickets we won the match even without laxman though that type of situation had arisen where laxman has helped us win in the past with the help of lower order batsmen...this though dravid was not there sachin had failed and laxman was not there we won due to kohli dhoni partnership...if instead of dhoni it was laxman who had made those runs u surely would have had many good things to say about that innings...but now dhoni played that type of innings and u are having amnesia/long term memory loss?

Buddy, though i agree with u regarding Dhoni's contribution in the last test series, please don't do the mistake of comparing him with the likes of Lax.
Dhoni can do his heroics against teams with weak bowling attacks whereas Lax can do against any attack be it Aus or SA.Remember his 74 NO against Aus in Delhi with just Ishant & Ojha for company and he won for India or his 74 in SA at Johnnesburg when forged an imp patnership with Zaheer to set a matchwinning target or his 97 in Capetown in 2010 when India won the match.
And moreover Dhoni is not a specialist batsman ,he is a wk batsman and it's a grave mistake that fans do when they compare him with a specilist batsman.Any contribution from him shud be considered a bonus but the onus on scoring runs is wrested with the batsmen.

Itla kumar, i am not comparing him to laxman...i am only answering the original poster's question about dhoni's form...

i am only trying to bring to his attention that dhoni is also a good batsman and contributes important runs to the indian team...his average in indian test wins is also nearly 50 runs per innings...

no intention of comparing him with specialist batsmen at all...just giving examples that he too has played very well in difficult situations

Yuvraj Singh was never considered as test players in his younger days. But after recovery from CANCER his selection in India team in all formats of cricket has been totally unquestionable from all corners.

chatter
Of lobbies and daddies and buddies
by chatter on Nov 05, 2012 08:51 PM

Sandeep Patil is repaying his debt in being made Chief Selector out of the blue to N Srinivasan by picking Murli Vijay who belongs to Tamil Nadu. I mean how else does one justify his selection. To balance things Harbhajan Singh has been recalled to keep the north lobby happy. It can be no one's case that he deserves the recall. And has Yuvraj really done enough to earn a test recall, sentiments about his recent battle with cancer notwithstanding ? Ajinkya Rahane has been picked to keep the west (and particularly Mumbai)lobby happy, though admittedly he deserves to be picked. All in all, it is a case of you scratch my back and I scratch yours. Teams from Central and East Zone win the Ranji and Duleep Trophies, but no players are picked from there as they do not have daddies to press for their selection. So the Tiwaries and Dindas slog match after match, usually winning them against more fancied opposition, but they barely get a look in. And players from the East have another big disadvantage ... the captain comes from their zone, but having sold himself out to Srinivasan and CSK he ensures that other players from the east do not get proper chances. So that everyone can say .. what a impartial person he is. Only Raina from Central Zone gets a chance .. that too because he is one of MSDs bmmbuddies at CSK

I am terribly disappointed with the selection.where are talented youngsters like S Badrinath and A Mukund. while dashing opener Murali Vijay was expected it is sad that despite repeated failures waste players like pujari, gambhur, harbhajan, zaheer ishant are selected. L Balaji would have been much better than zaheer and ishant as he has ability to pick wickets and is presently the best fast bowler in india. the only consoling factor is no ktaka player has been picked
