When Gambhir got out.
by AZAD on Mar 20, 2012 12:41 PM  | Hide replies

I work in Gulf and there are many Pakistanis I am alone Indian in my camp, we do watch matches together. I entered in the camp and found that all Pakistanis were dancing. I asked what happend they said Gambhir is out. I asked is Kohli there they said yes, I said no problem it will make no difference, till kohli is there I have hope that my country will win the match. When kolhi was hitting and crossed 100 one by one all left and i was alone watching the match. If it would have been the other way round I would watched the complete match. They could not tolerate defeat and ran away.

They can not tolerate defeat at the hands of "kafirs". This is their mentality.

PROVIDED HE IS IN TEAM FOR 10 YEARS , who knows SACHIN may influence BCCI to keep VIRAT out of team even if he fails in ONE MATCH

Do not compare Sachin and Virat. Virat is the best around but still no match to Tendulkar. Virat is a no 3 or 4 player but Sachin was a no6 player. So less number of centuries. Barring a century in Eng and Aus he hasn't clicked much while Sachin played out some deadly bowling at the start of his career. But I must agree Virat is the next Tendulkar for India.

Kohli at 4...

I think in test format Kohli is more suitable at number 4 position in near future after Sachin retirement. Gambhir should come at 3.

It's good for ODI format. In test batting order should be fixed rather than flexible for good results.

Let him prove
by Biren Shah on Mar 20, 2012 11:50 AM  | Hide replies

Let Kohli first prove for few years and then compare with legends like Sachin and Dravid. There are many small-time wonders who played excellent for 2-3 years and then disappeared. Physical stamina and keeping yourself fit and perfect for years is also an art - so let him play for few years first.
Not saying - he can not do - but comparing somebody based on few years experience with somebody who has performed for their life is not acceptable.

Probably you said the same thing when Tendulkar took 50 odd matches to hit first century in ODI and also Dravid who took a lot of matches to find his feet in ODI (even then became uncertain and eventually lost his place in ODI). So no one is perfect.

But I agree with you, we (fans & media) should not make a G0d out of Kohli (we should not repeat the same mistake). That's why we too so many years to win the world cups again and No.1 spot in Test.

M Dhoni
Re: Let him prove
by M Dhoni on Mar 20, 2012 12:28 PM
Shah, You are absolutely right. Here are some examples created by some fans/media
1.Raina after scoring 80in his early matches. - We got another Tendulkar.
2. Irfan after some terrific bowling.- We got another kapil Dev.
3. Avishkar salvi- another Mcgrath.
4. Akash Chopra n SS das - another Gavaskar.
5. Munaf patel- another Brett Lee.
6. Murali Kartik - another Bedi

and so on...

Funniest comments are those here, in which people are rating Kohli better than Tendulkar.

Kohli may emerge as a great player but he will have to wait. One should not forget that we are still struggling for the replacement of Ganguly at n0.6.

Yes Correct
by hawaldar on Mar 20, 2012 11:49 AM  | Hide replies

He should cement himself for No.3 in both ODI and Test, should serve for a long time. Should become like Ponting (more aggressive than Dravid). Which will mean that there is no room for all three Sehwag, Gambhir, Tendulkar in ODIs at least. Given the current form, I would ask Sehwag to sit out of ODI, he may continue in tests and see if he can still be effective. And once Sachin retires we should groom some other opener. We cannot rely on Sehwag anymore.

But I hope Indian Fans & Media don't make a G0d out of Kohli like we did for Sachin. We should try to build a team with lots of good players like Kohli, and not concentrate on one individual. I suspect same thing might happen now with Sachin retiring, Kohli becoming new G0d, being under pressure and rest of players just become namesakes in the team (including the bowlers).

Kohli should now be given enough opportunities in Test Matches, at least after Dravid getting retired there is one open space available.
