Rahul you will be remembered for your outstanding performance in cricket. You were a batsman par excellence. A slip fielder with exceptional reflexes and a wicket keeper too! when you were called upon to do the job. You were a gifted sportsman and your hard work enabled you to achieve the pinnacle of success. And you never let success go into your head and that's why you are Rahul Dravid. I remember a British actor once said " If I have to doff my hat to any one person in this world it would be Rahul Dravid". I can simply say as an ardent fan of yours right from the day when you stepped onto the cricket field and over the years I have seen you playing with the last test match against the win dies at Wankhade where you got out in the eighties trying to cut moving away, that your every action would remain eked in my memory. You were just amazing.

U R a emotional person, you know how many times he has spoilt the rythm of the match by playing too slow thus the team was loosing the match. In many occassion the non striker will loose the flow becuase at one end he captures the screez for so long without scoring

Problem is you guys tend to forget his contributions. Who won you the matches at Adelaide and Eden Gardens. Which Indian cricketer apart from Sachin has a contribution like him.and to answer your question staying at the crease in crisis is an admirable quality. He didn't throw his wicket can't you see that aspect of it.??? Why not if it wins matches for you or even save matches when it's a looking over the barrel kind of a situation. However the greatest thing in Rahul Dravid is his own admission that he did not fulfill on every occasion and no human being can be perfect. We all know that. But judging on the scale of imperfection I find Rahul has so little of it compared to others that he is streets ahead of them. And that's the reason I admire and respect him. It's upto you to agree or disagree.

You are full of excuses and ifs and buts. Dravid is someone who achieved success in his field. Soldiers are a far different breed and they deserve far more dulation than they deserve. But that does not mean, dravid should be disregarded for his achievements. You seem confused, even though driven by good intent.

The title was most apt for Rahul. You want some one to bat to save your life - who else could we think of other than this genial gentleman performer. Great example for the junior lot to follow. Wish him all the best

Most consistent player
by Happy Friday on Mar 10, 2012 01:10 AM

Extraordinary player in test matches. Best one down player we ever had. Have saved, won several matches for India in abroad. His timing is good even to call it a day for his next phase of life. Will be good to see him as batting coach or commentator rather wasting time with his state cricket association which is dead after him and Kumble. Never know he may be more successful in what he is going to choose now.
