gambhir as test captain
by sarang bani on Jun 02, 2012 04:13 PM  | Hide replies

Gambhir played pathetically in last 2 test series and he says that he is ready for test captaincy. This is basd on his scrap tamassha IPL victory. Test is not like eating samosa, itis a tough job which neither Gambhir nor foolish Sehwag is good enough for. They delibrately under performed in test mtches in Australia and conspired against Dhoni to stake their claim . Both these are responsible for the slide that Indian test team is facing.

Talking about delibrately, how about delibrately bringing jadeja back? How about keeping ashwin with him? How about stopping sachin from getting to 200. How about saying "rotation policy in the team" and "slow fielders in the media"? Apadiya nadipaan dhoni.

Best in playing lots of dots, then making it 25 required of the last over, then 6 from the last ball. Then will hit and become a hero. Yes you are right. He is still the best. Give him oscars.

If he can do so, then you should agree that he has the all control of the game in his hand.

You are right, but he is no match a wicket-keeper, compared to faroukh engineer, or Kirmani and even Kiran More was better keeper. In tests, keeping skills is more important than the batting skills for a wicket keeper.

by siddharth pathak on Jun 02, 2012 02:41 PM  | Hide replies

he is useless completely ..as a batsman and also a keeper ...his captaincy was ob=verhyped...india won because its team was good...because a lot of indian cricketers like gambhir, sehwag, raina, yuvraj, zaheer khan, yusuf pathan, dravid etc. played briliantly in patches...dhoni has no personal contribution to show....he has done absolutely nothing except freeriding and take away other's credit...INDIAN TEAM WOULD HAVE DONE EVEN BETTER IF DHONI WAS NOT THERE (because with dhoni its always a 10 member team)

yes...because no other captain has lost 8 matches continuously on the trot...no other captain has led his team 2 two series whitewashes (and most of the defeats were innings defeats)

Yes. Nobody has any rights to talk about a captain who failed in all the world cup matches. Except for the last match where he just clicked.

Dhoni is the King Midas. So he should must do something, why we lost 8 matches. Ohhh the team didnt perform? See Captain is as good as a team.

Yes Dhoni, rose in the most important match of the World Cup Series unlike his mates who failed miserably in the final match. Winning the final is crucial than progressing towards it, like 2003 WC. Gambhir, Dhoni and Yuvaraj Sing are most valuable players of the team; additionally Dhoni is the most valuable Captain India had ever seen. 0-8 Test matches whitewash is due to several other reasons rather than Captaincy failure.
Reasons behind the two test series white washes:
1. Team not interested to play since we won World Cup
2. Team not interested to play since IPL pay much more for shortest version.
3. Fake injuries to take rest.
4. Very old players not capable of maintaining stamina.
5. Stupid team which is always vulnerable in overseas pitches and bowling attack.

Dhoni is not a good batsman or a good wicket keeper. His test batting is boring. Dinesh Karthik is more entertaining batsman and good wicket keeper. some big corporates are behind Dhoni and his captaincy

Team India acheivements with Dhoni's captaincy.
1. T20 World Cup
2. ODI World Cup
3. No.1 Spot in Test Rankings for more than an year.
4. Three titles for his club team CSK.
Dhoni was the first test captain to have most percentage of test wins and less percentage of test losses before those two miserable overseas series. Those two series 0-8 because of the team not interested to play test match for three reasons.
1. They just won the world cup.
2. Fake Injuries.
3. They have earned a lot in IPL. IPL is the one to blame for test losses but not the captain.

Dhoni might need some rest, but there is no reason to underestmate his cricketing skills. Send the Indian team as Gambhir as captain to few International tours like South Africa, Srilanka, Australia and England. Let him excel in all those conditions and then make comparisons with Dhoni, but not now.

In WC Finals, Gambhir would have laid the platform when it is highly demanding, but Dhoni has taken it in himself to finish it off. We have seen India collapsing within 30 runs after 4th or 5th wicket, who knows what would have happened with Dhoni's breathtaking 90 odd runs. Dhoni was successfull as a Batsman as well as Keeper and Captain. But is it possible for Gambhir to maintain his batting form along with Captainship burden. IPL does not prove anything. IPL is just a fun game. But Test-Cricket is the real test to check anybody's cricketting character. Let's see how Gambhir excels as a Test captain. I wish hi all the best. Finally I only want to see India winning and claiming No.1 spot again.

Let them make Gambhir as Captain and let him face media after loosing few games, he will then realize and runaway from that high-pressure job. It is not an easy joke to be a successfull Indian captain, it takes in lot of pressure, talent and diplomacy. Nobody ever has done it remarkably well in past except Dhoni, the leader.

Dhoni has done well in ODIs and T20s,but has not done enough in Tests to be suggested as a successful test captain. His litmus test in Test cricket came in ENG and AUS tours, where the team failed miserably & so did Dhoni.
If u r saying no other captain has done so well, then u must have started following Indian cricket in the last 2-3 years after Dhoni became captain.Have you heard somebody named Sourav Ganguly,he is the best captain India ever had.It was during his stint as a captain that Indian cricket really blossomed, the self-belief that they can beat anyone at home & away and from any position.

Gambhir is 'the best option for captaining the Indian team currently. He is no-nonsense,competitive, prefers performing players and not the media hyped players, doesn't have a political mind.If one more proof is required then look at the ODI series against New Zealand last year, was absolutely attacking captain, won 5-1 or so.
It is disgusting to see BCCI keeping MSD as the captain for the last few years,if not they prefer sehwag(who is another uninspiring character, mainly as a captain)whenever there is a need.It shows how empty headed the selectors/bcci are. Better late than never, announce Gambhir as the next captain immediately to take India to the next era of dominance.

When Dravid was the vice captain and Greg chappel asked him to take up the captaincy from Ganguli owing to his poor run, Dravid polietly refused. It was said he is one of the few vice captains who did not 'plot' against his captain. See Gambir! he talks of captaincy even when Dhoni i still playing. He had a poor run though owing to away series for that matter even Gambir the captian will suffer on away toors. In fact he could not handle tyeh short stuffs. Gambir has to mature!!
