Going Forward.....

Lets look at the test scenarios. India is going to face NZ, ENG and AUS at home in the next 1.5 yrs and this is the perfect time to bring in newcomers and groom them. Some hard decisions have to be taken for the teams' cause:

Team composition:

1. First and foremost, Laxman's time is up. He should retire gracefully or forced to.
2. Either Tendulkar or Dravid should be playing hencefoth, until both retire. No point in having both in a home series.
3. Dhoni should retire from Test cricket and concentrate on 2015 world cup, as he is not a test match material, and remains a key to 2015 WC.
4. Sehwag and Gambhir's performances should be scrutinized and be told clearly 'Perform or Perish'. We dont need T20 shots in Test cricket. Enough is Enough.
5. Find openers from the Ranji Trophy that conculded recently, who can bat atleast 25 overs.
6. Pull in 3/4 Middle Order players to replace the trio, prepare them to take on in 2 yrs time. Again look at Ranji for that. Not ODI or IPL performances.
7. Replace Ishant with Praveen Kumar/Varun Aaron. Zaheer given his fitness level, may play for max another 1yr before he breaks down permanently.
8.Groom Umesh/Kohli/Ashwin/Ohja/Rohit. The nucleas of future indian team.
9. Saha is highly impressive behind the stumps. Make him permanent.
10. Since Dhoni and Sehwag are both inconsistant, make a young player captain and give some time (kohli or Ashwin, given their body language can be good candidates).

Action Items:

Its an open secret that Indian's can't play on bouncy tracks. There is no point in cribbing that over and over

again. Some practical measure can solve the problem to some extent.

1. Sehwag/Gambhir/Raina/Yuvaraj/Harbajan are all proven international cricketers. But they fail consistently in

abroad test matches. They have also earned enough for a secure living. They should be told to play in Country

cricket in Eng/Aus/SA and skip IPL for this yr, if at all they hope to retain/comeback to the Test squad.

2. Upcoming players should stictly be told - your IPL performances mean nothing. Perform in Ranji trophy and earn

your TEST place.

3. No player will play for India without playing 2 full Ranji seasons.

4. Anyone failing fitness will not be shown any sympathy. All those 20 something guys should know to work on their

body ( See what Aussies have planned for Pat Cummins)

5. Pace Bowlers should learn swimming and be able to swim atleast 400-500 metres at a strech before taken into

consideration. Swimming increases your stamina, arms stength and that gives them the guts to bowl 140-145 kmph consistently.

a very well written article. Good analysis really. You have some good understandings on Indian cricket.. IPL eventually will kill quality in Indian cricket. the sooner BCCI cut it down to size the better for the game.

Exactly. But the sad reality is that, BCCI is just doing the opposite. They have increased the number of league games in IPL from 56 to 72.

An excellent well-thought out post. Probably the most reasonable seen on Rediff in a very long time. The only places I would differ from you would be that Laxman, Dravid and Tendulkar can all be rotated in home series for the next 1.5- 2 yrs. Ishant has pace and heart and should not be cast aside. Ultimately in 3-4 years time, the team may look like this - Mukund/Vijay, Rahane,Pujara, Kohli, Sharma, Raina, Saha, Ashwin, Umesh, Aaron/Ojha, Ishant

in this politics of selection Kohli, gambhir, Ahswin and oldies sSuck out most practice at expense of YOUNGSTERS and bring back insulting failure in most of the test.
with all this practice, most of the oldies will not play one dayers. So players like rohit/raina/etc will be shoved in without practice into 1 dayer while the selected politicians would have had practice.

kohli, dhoni, gambhir etc from cartel have an advantage.

even for last test with pitch conditions close to india to allow ozzie some practice of indian bowling and batting in Asian alike pitch, these crooks did not give up politics to allow youngsters.

yesterday people said pace and swing was an issue for indian nerves.
now lyon with spin takes most wickets over and above the pace.

they cannot even play spin?? the indian bread and butter.

Ponting....
by jaguar on Jan 27, 2012 03:28 PM  | Hide replies

What a sudden change in fate just in a span of one month. Just 32 days ago, before the first ball was bowled on the boxing day test match, the aussie media was baying for Punter's blood.. But Ponting, the willy fox he really is knew that the table would turn soon as he's licking his limbs and waiting for the Indian bowlers.. Ponting's come-back-from-dead performances only suggest one thing.. Indian bowlers are fully capable of giving a second-life to any struggling batsmen in the cricket world.
Dravid must be wondering how it all went wrong so suddenly and the sky started falling down on him..
The great Tendulkar is after all human, a mere mortal. He may not admit but its quite certain that the 100th ton is playing in his mind and he’s thinking abt it all the time.
This is by all means, the end of the road for VVS Laxman.. probably in IPL as well. He should team up with his city pal Azhar and start a cricket academy. Who knows, we might get some good wristy players like them in future.
It’s interesting to note that the decline of India’s awesome 3-some is coincided with Ponting’s return to form.. and how did he make a comeback?? By hitting a double hundred, a hundred and 3 well-timed 50’s. It’s the ricky ponting of the old.. How is it possible ?? Well, my best guess is Ponting would have done some aborigine Voodoo magic on Dravid/SRT/VVS and traded/swapped his luck with theirs.. !! :-D.

well written and good humour

be careful Ponting is Irish and he has his gang and can come after u ,should he discover who you really are

also Ponting best pal is Pup (clarke)
so they made sure everything is in place and the stage set
-----
Iam a Sachin Fan and feeling very very painful

correct all media in india went about 100th ton etc and some aussie media too saying aussie will not allow

some how LUCK did not favour Sachin

But Sachin will come back ..till then let us respect him and take focus away from him as well
==================
Apart from that you are 100 percent INDIAN bowlers always gave life to PONTING before and this time ,they made sure 100 percent as well

who but our Indian bowlers can bowl in a way that 3 centuries and two double centuries are scored
----
I feel somehow DHONI might be involved in some behind the scenes fixing of some Indian bowlers (I have no proof and Iam just suspecting the way things went so far )
