IT'S SIMPLE, ABSENCE OF KUMBLE IS SHOWING UP NOW
by mohan on Jan 19, 2012 01:33 PM  | Hide replies

The tough and intelligent spinner like Kumble is missing in the team now. Just blabbering on seniors no point. If Laxman/Dravid/Ten has to retire or to be dropped, then all eleven need to be dropped based on the performance. If age is the criteria then younger lot like Dhoni- to evey one are unfit and to show the required performance at this age, they cannot fit for future games. The seniors are most preferred than the current younger lot. They need to show the blasting performance. If they cannot then why you call them as youngsters.

The problem is Tendulkar
by pradeep agarwal on Jan 19, 2012 01:07 PM

His decision to hang around even after 21 years in international cricket allows the lesser mortals like Dravid & Laxman to also continue at this level.Sachin can make the other two to retire or face the axe if he decides to move forward & let new generation steps in.It is quite unlikely otherwise for likes of Srikanth who heads selection committee to take bold step & ask the veterans to quit after serving nation with glory.

Way Forward
by abc_xyz abc_xyz on Jan 19, 2012 12:59 PM  | Hide replies

India is schedueld to play NZ (3 tests, sep-2012), eng (4 tests, dec-2012) and aus (4 tests, mar-2013). All are home series and should be a perfect time for a much-needed overhaul, as younsters are more confident playing at home rather than abroad.

1. Laxman's time is up, He needs to retire gracefully, or shown the door. As such Adelaide test is not going to change India's fortunes. He may play that as a farewell test and exit.

2. Between Dravid and Tendulkar, only 1 should be in the playing XI henceforth for these 3 home series ..as these are relatively easier ones for the replacements to perform, thanks to the home conditions. There is no point in playing both Dravid and Tendulakr. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, S Badrinath and Chateshwar Pujara should be included in the 16-man squad and gi

given chances on a rotation basis. Say, of these 12 tests, each of the gets to play 6-7 tests and based on their performances, they should be taken to SA in DEC 2013 (when both Dravid and Tendulakr would have retired or forced to retire).

3. Opening slots: Abinav Mukund should be in the squad in all the 3 tours and replace the regular openers if they fail (esp sehwag, who seems to have forgetten the basics of test cricket)

4. Ashwin and Ojha are the future spinners (both in mid 20s)..no place for ageing harbajan. Rahul Sharma should be the back-up.

5. Umesh and Varun are the future and should play second fiddle to Zaheer, before Zaheer retires in 3-4 yrs. Back up pacers should be someone who is young%2

who is young and bowls at 140kmphr. We dont need dodo s like Vinay kumar.

6. Dhoni should be relived of test captaincy before india tours SA in dec, 2013. Saha/Dinesh kartik should be considered as replacements. Partiv patel doesn't belong to test match level. Selectors should follow ranji trophy closely and select talented WK in 12 months time, should saha or dinesh kartik fail (both not yet proven)

That way, in 2 yrs time, india will head to a clear direction and can regain lost glory.

Indian cricket team.
by VENKATESWARAN VISWANATHAN on Jan 19, 2012 12:58 PM

I do not disagree with Akram's remarks about the ageing Indian players. There is no doubt the mobility of these 3 great players have gone down. It is common sense that no human being can have the mobility of 28 at the 38. It is also fact that right now we do not have any suitable replacements. But if we have to experiment then it can be done only in Indian or sub continent conditions. The board should all these senior players including Sewag and thank them for their service and tell them politely but firmly that they should now give way to youngsters. Whether Sachin gets his 100 th century or not it is immeterial. He can still retire and allow things to continue. Let us presume that we will be behind Bangladesh without these 3 or 4 senior players and start from scratch. With all these greats we have lost 4-0 in England and on the same path in Australia too.Why now we lose giving chance to youngsters.

Why Blame Seniors
by Shiva Bhat on Jan 19, 2012 12:04 PM

Wasim Akram should understand and realise how many of the young ones moved their feet? The failure is the complete lack of application of the whole bunch and does not pertain to one or two individuals....

Gambhir
Rahane
Pujara
Tendulkar
Rohit Sharma
Kohli
Parthiv Patel
Ashwin
Zaheer
Ishanth
Varun/Yadav

Absolutely no room for Laxman, Dravid, Sehwag, etc. And no no to below average performers like Vinay Kumar, Mithun, etc.

With the above team, we may not see success straight away but at least we will improve. And as Akram says it needs a lot more for us to really improve our performance overseas (like improving the infrastructure, selection policies, etc, etc) And given our money power (at least cricket), we should really do better than any other Asian Nations...

Funny.. if there's no place for Darvid how can SRT find a place in team...Absence of Dravid will hurt the team more than absence of SRT..

If India's overseas record has improved in the past few years.. its mainly because of Dravid.. On most occasions Dravid had steadied the situation for others to follow.. If v didnt have a dravid.. tendulkar wudve been exposed to new ball more often than not..

We can't keep worrying about past! India is always a sentimental nation. Dravid did wonders in the past, we will appreciate, we will praise, we will clap... But now? Look at how he is failing, how he is getting out... If he is so good, let him take the coaching job straight away as he knows the trade better than lot... (Don't look 50, 60 years old foreign guys to coach for India) Once he is relieved from playing, he can concentrate completely on coaching. India should think creatively... Age matters guys... (As a part of experience we can have Sachin in the team who is doing reasonably well) If we don't groom the youngsters now, what's gonna happen? Didn't we find ideal replacements for Dravid in ODI? Ganguly is both test and ODIs? We should move on

Yes Gambhir should be captain for this team... I think Gambhir has it in him... Form can change...

Nothing to do with Gujarat... Parthiv can handle short balls better than anybody (at least wicket keeper) Same with Rahane and Rohit Sharma. They all may need some time... Spending time with them is worthy... But do want to still spend time & experiment with Laxman, Dravid???

My pont is no point having SRT in team as well.. he should alos retire.. no use scoring 40 , 50s or 100s that do not impact the result
