India should not get too carried away with the youngsters
by Nikhil Shah on Feb 10, 2012 04:15 AM  | Hide replies

With the need to re-establish themselves after the world cup, India still need to retain their hold on the Test and 1-day arena.

In the one-dayers there has been a drive to better fielding and bowling. The problem is there is no replacement in sight for Zaheer and Sachin yet, and Indian think tank has to still rely on the seniors for some of the key positions.

In the 1-day top order, Rahane and Shikhar has to rotate with Gambhir, Sehwag and Sachin. The middle order is also crowded, with Tiwari and Yuvraj still in the hunt.

In the 1-day seam attack, Praveen is Dhoni's favorite and Vinay Kumar who has increased his pace has the best pace to accuracy ration. Though Munaf is as good as Zaheer in the 1-dayers he still needs to refine his fielding and batting skills. Vinay needs about 20 more ODIs to mature and Praveen's pace is declining for the the next World Cup, India needs 4 seamers and Vinay and Munaf are the most likely to survive.

In Tests, Dravid, Laxman and Sachin are not as solid and India cannot replace Gambhir and Sehwag in the near term. So Rahane, Pujara, Tiwari and Rohit Sharma have to wait.

The problem with Test fast bowling has been the performance of Ishant's decline. Both Yadav and Varun have not matured yet. Yadav's profile looks similar to Sreesanth who started his Test career just like Yadav did.

It seems like Rohit will be knocking on the door for 1-dayers with Yuvraj still around.

why are looking for replacements for specific players..look for replacements for specific positions. Virat kohli can be an excellent no.4 in tests. there is no need to replace zaheer as we can imagine he got injured.

Insider news: Tendya has been intentionally playing bad it seems.
by cc man on Feb 10, 2012 04:08 AM

Tendya has been intentionally playing bad since world cup it seems because he wants a good occasion to score 100th hundred. Since, India as a whole has not been performing well to give him an occasion, he has been deferring to good occasion it seems. So, in this CB ODI Series also, he wont score hundred unless a berth is confirmed in the final. Meantime, he will just score few 50's to retain his place in playing eleven. Pathetic, Selfish batsman who has been putting personal interests in front of team needs.

Best bowlers and fielding
by Mukund G on Feb 10, 2012 02:51 AM  | Hide replies

Indian Team doesn't have best bowlers and fields like other countries. They should have at least 3 pace bowlers who can bowl consistently 140KM/h or at least 1 left arm pace bowler. No best bowlers, fields and not an all-rounder. Still India is looks like 1975. No change in the team spirit or accept any challenges. Only India plays good in Indian soil and failed in all other countries soil badly.

140KM/h and above with proper swing is ok as long we have spin centric attack of Kumble quality to put pressure. we need rotation of spin attack.

let the youngsters earn their place, let the youngsters (supposedly in their prime) play better than sachin even (even when he is supposedly past his prime)

Sachin is blocking his place
by krishna v on Feb 09, 2012 11:52 PM  | Hide replies

How many more youngsters will give away their dream of playing cricket becuase if this man. Compare 2 people Virat kohli and rohit sharma. virat was given confidence he did well in australia.Had lazman or dravid or even sachin rested/dropped, Sharma would have done well too. But, none of them were dropped and given a chance to rohit, that is why he is having doubts in his ability.Sad to see one more career being put down by Sachin

Dhoni statements about Rohit in an article. Pathetic
by cc man on Feb 09, 2012 11:52 PM

"It is very important to give a long run to a batsman like him," he said. "We believe in his talent.
"I will look to rotate as I want Rohit to play as many games as possible. It gives him an opportunity to get set into the side"

Now, the question is why he did not think like this for Rahane,Pujara. Both these players boasts best batting records in domestic circuits. Also, Rahane,Pujara proved their worth in the little chances they have received.

Its high time, Dhoni is dropped. He is just surviving because of captaincy. Lets make Kohli the captain. I see next Ganguly in him
