We are the generation who grew up with Sachin. Sachin came in when India cricket had nothing to boast of, except an accidental world cup in 1983, we enjoyed, longed for, savoured every moment which he gifted us. Sometimes I wondered, whether India deserved a great player like him, rather he should ve been a part of a team like the invicincible Aussies during their hay days. Sachin carried the weight of the nation on his shoulders, and that weighed on him and his performances. On the hind sight , if we had another anchor in the team, whom we could depend on, things would ve been different. At times, it looked like the Indian team was only Sachin. He thrived, performed through the 23 years, with the same commitment which he had back in 1989, however things material wither with time, and now its time for the little master to retire. This, is the end of an era, the end of sachin-era. We could with pride say that we belonged to those times, when Sachin, the little master used to play for India. :) Hopefully, somebody as great as Sachin, would one day happen for India, hopefully in a better scenario than the little master had to endure....

that accidental world cup was responsible for popularizing cricket in India. In 1987 we could have repeat the feat only for that over confident kapil dev n his clan for taking england cheaply in semi finals.

rwhy is he not retiring from Test cricket?
by Great Khali on Dec 24, 2012 07:08 PM  | Hide replies

Can anyone pls tell me why he is not retirning from test cricket? is it because he is scoring big time in Test matches.. I wish, for the benefit of Cricket as a game, I was expecting him to retire altogether. Seems he will continue for another 3-4 years like this in test cricket..

Other's Fault
by siva kumar on Dec 24, 2012 06:36 PM  | Hide replies

If the so called youth in the team had performed well- Sachin could have been given little more opportunity. But all of them failed together which has magnified Sachin's failure many times.

Many times Sachin has saved the team when other members failed due to some reason, but when He failed nobody was there to save him..

Even his detractors can not rejoice at the retirement announcement...

he has been paid to do that.. when he fails he need not be paid and has to be removed..as simple as that

There was a time when Sachin was capable of saving the team, but now he is a dead weight on the team... Better that he retires from all forms of cricket.
