Yes and No! Unlike football where players do not choose their jersey numbers at international level, but the preferred starting line-up is given the numbers 1 to 11, there is no such thing in cricket. Here the players take the jersey number of their choice, you will not see a footballer playing with the number 99, in football the jersey numbers are limited to 1-23 in the international squad and 1-32/33, depending on the squad strength in club squads. Therefore, please do not make comparisons with Football, and retiring a jersey number is just a matter of choice with the BCCI!
yes no1 else in this world deserves this jersey no atleast this much can be done by BCCI for a legend who has served the nation for 23 yrs...It wld be insulting 2 watch some1 not even worth polishing his shoes using this no it has become immortal no now

next demand can be take out no 10 from all the sport ,, lateron from printing the notes and so on and so on,,,,
If Mumbai Indians wants, then they can retire the jersey number from their own squad. That does not mean BCCI should retire the number for the Indian Cricket Team. It should be given to the next best player ie. maybe Virat Kohli etc.

When did the BCCI become a country? I think it is just another club.
