We are a nation who love bickering & conspiracy theories, and with an entire cast of characters. If there is a hero, there should be a villain. If we have to elevate somebody, we should run down others for effect. We have never been happy that we had gems like Sehwag, Ganguly, Sachin, Laxman & Dravid playing in the same team. We could not enjoy all of them at the same time. Praising our favorite over others is not enough. The praise will not be complete without trashing rest of them.. Wow, seems other countries respect our heroes more than us
Selections are done by commentators/critics from Mumbai- Gavaskar, Ravi Sastri, Manjrekar Kapil Dev/the only Desh Bhakt in this country who played 15 tests forhis last 10 wickets criticises every body
We should have a democratic election In indian cricket to choose the BCCI, captain and the team too....Otherwise we would loose all good players bcos of these politics
Sachin was far better than Laxman in England and Australia, and even in the series with West Indies at home. You can compare the scores for both batsmen. In fact, same is also true of Gavaskar and Vishvanath comparision. In the same 10 innings, in which undappa made a single 50 and rest sub-20 scores, Gavaskar made scores of 83,8,42, 12,127,17,60,13,5 and 67. Yes- 3 half centuries, 1 century and 1 score of 42. Thats an average of 47.33. Clearly not a performance to be thrown from the team. Please dont give wrong information just to make a point. I think Laxman should have stayed, but no need to say he was performing as well as Sachin when he was not.

Vishwanath and Gavaskar both were great as both played fast bowlers without helmet. But still on fast and bouncy wickets vishy scored a lot of runs alone along with tailenders and used to give our great spinners 200 plus runs for bowling opposite out. I can give many examples of vishy's match winning performances.

you are right Shirish, and Vishwanath should have been given a chance, and so shud have been Laxman. All I am saying is that there was a huge difference in Gundappa and Gavaskar's performance in those last few innings. Gavaskar averaged 47 in those innings while Gundappa averaged in 20s. The writer here makes it sound like both were performing at the same level in that series, which is not true at all. There was no case at all for Gavaskar to be dropped.

Right bhidu But one fact Gavaskar never had such a long spell of bad patch in his career as sachin had thrice in his career. Gavaskar was self respecting. He followed vijay Merchant's funda. One should go when people as why? and not when people as why not? I think sachin has lost that opportunity.

more than the player, the selectors' board should follow the funda of who is valuable for the team and who is not.
I have been saying this for nth time now everytime india fails a southindian is made scapegoat. it is very obious that vishy was much more commited than selfish gavvaskar

Yeah Yeah... you jumped at this with much glee.. didnt you? Seems to be your favorite topic - us v/s them?
The potential article, unproductive players to be kept out at least three matches. When they got enough money in advertisement why should they play for country ? Within two matches we concluded that Cheteshwara Pujara is the new wall.
I pretty much have echoed the same views on the comments as i am not an author. But it will not put an end to the double standards that we have in our country.
