Can the Selector-in -Chief keep his mouth shut?
by SekharaM on Nov 28, 2011 08:08 AM

Memory is ridiculously short for cricket selectors. Have we already forgotten the lessons from the English tour? Our team will come back from Australia with no win and some broken fingers and ribs.
Superstars like Zaheer, Sachin and Viru will chicken out before any serious contest, so that they are available for the IPL show.
The younger players will have no option but to play but will get out as soon as possible. Then the excuses will start.
I am sure that the selectors have already finalized the list of excuses for the team's failure in Australia. They will be released at the end of the tour.
How can these people be so shameless?

A Realistic assessment

Sehwag and Gambhir out of form (Can't get a 100 against WI). Dravid and Laxman solid with Bat but dodgy in fielding, catching and running. Sachin weighed down by 100th 100. Kohli can't play short ball. Dhoni not good enough for tests. Zaheer unfit. Ishant has never run through a side. Ashwin and Ojha can have only limited effect outside subcontinent. Praveen is a good bowler but Yadav and Aaron too raw and can't hold a bat. It will be a miracle if we win.

Four prong pace attack
by Nikhil Shah on Nov 28, 2011 02:33 AM  | Hide replies

Looking in the conditions in Australia, it would be better if they decide to go with a 4 prong pace attack:

Zaheer Ishant Yadav Varun

Taking 20 wickets in Australia would be difficult if
2 of the 4 bowlers go wicketless of an injury would make the Test impossible to win.

Let us consider this scenario:

Zaheer Ishant Praveen Ashwin

Can this attack take 20 wickets ? They can bat a bit but we cannot win. If we decide to go with 4 fast bowlers with an average SR of 9 overs

Zaheer Ishant Varun and Yadav

An average SR of 9 0vers means that we will bowl a team out in 90 overs and the 2nd new ball will be used to bowl out the tailenders.

If the conditions are not as pacy and bouncy with no swing they can bowl a fuller length like in India at an eco rate of 3.5 instead of 2.5.

Bowling a team out quickly is better in Test matches rather than the line-n-length approach waiting for a wicket to fall

when the chief of selectors is depending on GODS GRACE and asking all of us to PRAY...we certaily should win. lets pray guys...he admitted he aint got confidence in the team he has choosen. any way just wondering what this word 'CAN' means.. its quite natural to say bangladesh CAN beat australia in austraila to win a test series.. zinbabwe CAN beat south africa in south africa to win a test series 5-0.. its quite possible that i CAN get sleep soon.

Depends on Sehwag. If he can silent himself for 20 overs he is the most dangerous one out there.

Shame on Indian Navy & Coast Guard
by Ilango S on Nov 27, 2011 10:47 PM  | Hide replies

Frequently Indian Fishermen are attacked, tortured and killed by the Srilankan Navy.
Kam Chorr, by getting Indian public tax as monthly salary, Indian Navy and Coast Guard filed case against our Fishermen.
What a shame on the face of our Indian Navy & Coast Guards, instead of protecting our people these forces are helping the Srilankan Navy.

If our Fishermen crosses the international border, International norms does not allow attacks, torture and killing. There are the way to deal with.

This is the shame on the part of Indian Navy and coast guard to file a petition against poor Indian Fishermen.

We doubt, our Navy is guarding our territory or Srilankan territory.

Shame! Shame! Shame on the part of Navy.

please do not bring regional and linguistic feelings to flare the usually enjoyable sport like cricket in India..lets put aside these barriers for while when 17 of our soldiers embark on the toughest tour on the planet representing mother india...these players are chosen based on the current performances and in domestic...three players should never be touched till they voluntary retire (sachin, rahul and vvs). ofcourse a psychopath marauder like sehwag should always be there..ashwin is there because of being the top wicket taking spinner in the country in the ranji..ojha has gone one level above by being the top spinner for his county in england..all these apart from their current performances in tests...the fast bowling choices shouldnt be a problem because sree is temperamental and not in form, and rest others are almost identical when they are compared...bhajji can wait because even the legendary kumble was not picked several times during his peak form..so, there is no such north south divide or east west divide..its team india..
